Shifting into Third around 15-20 MPH. Shifting into second @3000 RPM @ 100% Throttle. Shifting into forth around 30 MPH.
I know I have the blow-by Issue and I have the cutting out problem at 45-65 MPH.

Hm yea it is in comfort mode but hell comfort mode is like "nogo" mode. And it didnt seem to do it before. I only put it into power when I am wheeling? Anyone have a wiring diagram on the aw4 in 1988? Is one in the FSM?

You can find the AW4 manual here:

Yeah, the FSM has a wiring diagram for the AW4 and its computer. If you're shifting seems screwed up the most likely culprit is the TPS sensor.

Yea but it sounds normal for comfort mode.....

I'd leave it in power, unless the fuel mileage difference was really really great in comfort vs. power.

i have the same problem and I dont have a comfort mode buttom so i can toggle it to
It seems to go to overdrive very early reallllly annoying i know two ways dealing with this problem
1) try to live with it as I do by having a havier foot on 3rd gear , put the shifter into 3 or while on Overdrive with one leg on the gas pedal hit the brakes with your left foot it will shift back to third
2) Repair it I m not sure about this one but they told me its the valve body solenoids especially the solenoid responsible for OD . But one day I went to jeep specialist here in EGYPT he unpluged some wires coming from the TCM or ECU ( cant remember) and he wired them to the battery i could hear the solenoids energized open and close so supposedly the solenoid theory is busted but the problem is that this phenomenon happens only 75% of the time so I can t still figure it out not many people have this problem I searched the forum here there are like 5 of us and in the jeep factory here in egypt they never heared of such a problem they told me to change the TCM but it didnt fix it

Mine will behave that way in comfort mode (I leave it in power all the time), or if I lose power to the TCU, which has happened twice. Check your fuses and such..

Your solenoids are fine if you are shifting into the correct gears. I would check the TPS sensor as that has a big effect on shift points, especially if its bad.

Can you convert a non comfort/power trans to a comfort/power trans with a switch, or will you need an older style TCU and wiring?

I just replaced the tps.

I changed the TPS too but it didnt fix it.
I think its the solenoids because it doesnt occur all the time then its an elevtrical problem not a mechanical one. try buying 2nd hand valve body and replace it and see what will happen. My advice is to test the solenoids before doing that.

You should always keep it in power mode to achieve any bit of fortitude in your tranny. It seems they don't last nearly as long kept in comfort. More slippage occers when shifting in this mode .
