00' xj A/C squeaks

I have a 00' xj. every time i turn on the A/C it starts to squeak. ive changed the belt recently. what else could be causing the squeaks.

Are you sure the belt is tight enough and adjusted properly?

I'm back -- had to take time out for a small but nasty thunderstorm. I believe the '00 has a tensioner and I don't know to what extent that is adjustable. What is the age and condition of your belt? It is possible that your compressor is placing an unusual load on the belt but get back to us about the condition of the belt itself.

New belt: 180-200 ft lbs tension.

Used belt (any belt after 15 minutes of operation) 140-160 ft lbs tension.

Use a Gates Krikit II micro-v belt gauge, less than $20 at NAPA or rockauto.com
