question about 96 head on 91

keeping things simple, is a head off a 96 4.0 a direct replacement for a 91 4.0?

i have a knock in my head, i don't know what exactly is wrong, i'm leaning towards a bent pushrod due to overrevving (previous owner) but i'm not too sure.

i see replacing the whole head as much simpler and cheaper than replacing the worn parts.

i'll be getting this head for next to nothing if they are compatible.

If you have a bent pushrod replacing the head won't fix it. Replace the pushrod and be done with it.

However the head will be a direct swap with the possible exception of the rear coolant port. The 96 head may or may not have that. If not it can always be drilled and tapped for the gauge sender unit.
