Hey so a guy I used to work with, and thought was a good dude fell off the grid wednesday. So at any rate, I went on his motor cycle forum, only to find that he had been arrested wednesday for 10 counts of CHILDREN-SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF A CHILD. So I would assume that is kiddy pron? Any who, I would have never guessed. Porn sure everyone looks a porn. But to get arrested for that shit. He must have been looking at some rowdy shit. Any who, I don't really know how to feel about that shit.

You never know the real info of a porn star, although it says he/she or maybe even a she-he is over 18, who knows. And there is some NASTY stuff out there, but i think getting arrested for watching it on the internet is a little extreme, after all 100000000234000000 people watch it online. And apperantly you cant say "S" word on naxja so watch out!

commercial porn is legit, 18+ and regulated... but theres A LOT of amateur/self produced porn out on the internet, and A LOT of it is either debatable, or downright contains images of women under 18...

that being said, usually people dont get arrested and charged with those crimes for a couple illegal images out of thousands of legit ones on his computer.
if anyone who views CP gets arrested, everyone who browses 4chan could get pinched... i know ive accidently clicked things i shouldnt have... theres some sick XXXXers out there! and the kids do need protection.

BUT they could target anyone they want,.... im not too sure how often people are 'wrongly' targeted like this, it's really hard to say. nobody asks pedophiles what they got busted for usually!

wont anyone think about the kids! what happens when a 16 year old girl takes a picture of herself topless, sends it to her underage boyfriend, who forwards it to all his underage friends?

shit's complicated, a blanket zero tollerance policy isnt the way to go, imho.

if you can, give him the benefit of the doubt until you can get more details. im not saying send your kids there for babysitting, but dont spread rumors about him until you know for sure! MAYBE he's just kinda a creep?

whats in YOUR browser cache's people? what about when your nephew used your pc that one time? internet browsing records dont lie! they just dont tell the entire story.

That section of the law encompasses many different types of activities. But rest assured, none of them are innocent.

They don't generally make an arrest until they have pretty convincing evidence of guilt. They have to determine if the DA will file otherwise they face a nasty lawsuit. My guess is he most likely earned it.

Usually this thing happens if you are distributing the files, if you are just browsing the internet and happen to see an image of a under 18 how are you going to know unless it is obvious.

Maybe the guy was on Dateline NBC - To catch a Predator ? Tis f'd up but it is amusing seeing how stupid/ignorant those guys really are.

one thing about the whole 'to catch a preditor'... i beleive they pretty much setup the guy... im not saying its right, but the guy WAS talking to someone over 18... and the woman they have meet him at the door? also over 18. wheres the crime? i didnt know persuing women who lie about their age was illegal? immoral? absolutely! but illegal? theres no crime. couldnt he say in defense, that he knew she was really over 18 all along? she was!

im all for catching the real perverts out there, but it seems like that show catches guppies for ratings. it'd be awesome if they just humiliated them on tv, thats fair. but arresting him? the police shouldnt let NBC do their detective work.

So they think.

Police are wrong sometimes, not always maliciously like John. That's why we have those court thingies ;)

Whatever the story is unless you walked in and saw the guy doing something illegal he's innocent until proven guilty, remember that.

While I hate pedophilia and all that I really hate the witch hunt atmosphere these days because I don't think it will stop with this. It'll creep into more and more things until we have ourselves a nice shiny police state.

The crime is that he thought he was talking to an under age girl and he dragged himself out to a place to meet her for sex. This meets the legal definition of intent for the commission of a crime. What would have happened if it wasn't NBC? There's no excuse and these people deserve all the humiliation and the legal consequences of their actions.

Policing a society is a necessary thing to maintain order. It is true that there are some bad cops, but in my experience they are few and far between. There are many checks and balances in our system. I am all for people's rights but the police need the authority to prosecute crimes that they can prove. Naturally, people make mistakes. Sometimes people are wrongfully convicted. I think those are very much the exception and that it is truly rare. It is more difficult than ever to get a conviction against criminals because the police have to have much better information than in the past. This has resulted in many cops getting much better at their jobs. Criminals are also constantly finding ways to get away with their crimes. It is a never ending battle, but one that must be fought to preserve order in our society and protect people.

The point is that for the criminal the scenario was real until he finds out it was a sting. Like I said above if it wasn't a sting then a young girl would have been a victim. It's not like they bust in to the guys home and arrest him for chatting with the girl online. The reality is the guy GOES to the "girl"'s house to have sex with her. That is a crime no matter how you look at it. It is a crime of intent, kind of like conspiracy. BTW I'm not trying to knock your point of view, just trying to present a different point of view or maybe clarify why this is actually a crime.
