the key on the crank for the timing chain lets the sproket move pretty far is it supposed to be a curved side style or just a regular box style. flat sides to curved sides???? 89 xj 4.0 renix motor.
Good question. I'm burning my brain trying to remember what it looked like when I did my
timing chain. Maybe you would care to elaborate a bit further on what you want to know.
ok, the woodruff key that the timing sproket slides over. i can spin the sprocket about 1/4 inch both ways so i pulled it off, the woodruff key has like an hourglass shape to it the question is.... is it supposed to be like that or is the crankshaft sprocket not supposed to spin at all when the crank isnt moving??
That is supposed to be tight without having the sproket not slip over easy.
Having a 1/4 inch of play that's a lot! Your going to have replace that key
and probably the sprocket too. I was thinking about it for a while and I'm
sure it's not supposed to be anything other than I guess a "box", could have
a semi that goes into the crankshaft not sure about that though never had
to take that off. As far as I know it's supposed to be tight.
