Won't start up. Out of state!!

I forgot to mention that I did shoot some starting fluid in it and it did NOT fire up. So that makes me think it is a spark related issue.

Here is a video of me testing spark. The last few seconds you can see it barely sparking. May have to watch it a few times to see it. Sorry it's so bad.

I'm not sure I was paying attention closely enough. Did you say that you replaced the battery?

Have you checked voltage across the battery while starting? I've had a battery drop a cell and make it do crazy stuff. Just something else to check.

I bought the jeep nov 4th. Battery was replaced September 2011

Battery should not be the issue because it isn't what creates spark. It turnover just fine.

I am back in VA now. Will be working on the Jeep tomorrow. Going to have better tools this time around to check everything I did not get a chance to check.

Update :

I can get it to sputter now. But it just won't run. I've done almost everything except take the fuel rail off and clean it. Any suggestions? I did some of the tests for the cps and it should be good. The cel does come on for a second when its in RUN so that's another sign it should be good

Sounds to be fuel related. Either the injectors are not working or the fuel pump is either weak or the flow is being constricted. When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? I would change it first, then take a fuel pressure reading at the rail. Pressure shold be about 49 psig peak pressure then bleed off to about 36 to 40 psig on all 96 and newer EFI systems. If you are less than that, you have a weak fuel pump.

Bad gas or watered gas can take out a pump, filter, and clog the fuel system requiring a complete system flush out. Including the tank. My bet is on watered gas. Had a similar experience with a BMW bike with water in the fuel.

Well I don't have a way to test the fuel pressure at the moment. But I did spray starting fluid and that did nothing. I tried it 2 different days. Wouldn't that have fired if it was a fuel problem?

Put an old plug in one of the wires and held it on the AC compressor while a friend tried to start it. Sparks good. So we got fuel, got spark, but no run....

Update: Fuel pressure hits about 47-49 when key turned on. Then drops to 45 and stays for a good while. Got a noid light and check injectors and they are pulsing.

So I have spark, have fuel, have compression, but will not run. Hear no bad noises like a broken timing chain or anything. I need this fixed by this weekend as I have to drive back and forth to the real estate office and our new house. I really hate the idea of taking it to a shop.

I pulled each plug and turned it over, cleaned and dried the plugs, put it al back together (with the fuel pump relay out) spray some starting fluid in it and had it running. I ran it a few times for about 5-10 seconds. Then while it was running I plugged the fuel pump relay back in and it died. Now its back to doing nothing again. I have check compression, spark, fuel. O2 sensor wiring looked to be good. Noid light lit up the injectors.

It runs on starting fluid if I get everything dry and pull the fuel pump relay... Anyone??? I am about to take it to a shop but I really could use the $1000 they are gonna yank me for because we are buying a house this month.

If someone could offer some advice it would be awesome. I have done everything in the FAQ on not starting.

No, as I was with the understanding those were only issues on the Renix system. I will check them tomorrow as soon as I figure out which is what and how to test them.

What is the chance you got a tank of crap gas, or maybe somebody put some crap in your tank? If it runs on the ether, it should run on the gas.

Wow. It was the coil. And it had bright blue spark and all. We plugged in a msd coil just for shizandgigs and she fired up. Ran to advance and got a new coil and she's back to life. I still can't believe that it sparked just fine (so it looked) but wouldn't run on gas, just ether.
