Greetings Gang,
(long time no post here...sorry)

Saturday October 4th @ Rausch Creek offroad park - the Keystone Krawlers offroad club will be holding a *Wheeling 101* trip. This trip is specifically designed for the new folks & first timers who wanna get their feet wet in offroading. There should be a small lecture in the morning about offroading, offroad driving, and trail etiquette. And there will be seasoned wheelers there to help/assist you with anything, spotting, coaching, & what-not.

If you're interested in attending - Please contact Nancy via e-mail
[email protected]
If you plan to attend Please send your name, what you'll be wheelin in(and color), and your cell phone number or some way to reach you that morning if need be. If you are new to RC please get there before 8am to fill out all your registration paperwork. The Wheelin 101 group is meeting at 8:30 am.

Anyone is welcome!! First timers, newbies, experienced wheelers, any 4WD vehicles..... but make a note - we will be running GREEN (easy) trails all day and utilizing our time primarily to help the first timers & new folks.

If you are attending - please make sure your vehicle is maintained and prepared for a day on the trails. Make sure you dress accordingly for the weather and also wear hiking books and/or sturdy sneakers/shoes. Bring a cooler with a packed lunch and drinks (no alcolohol!!). We will be on the trails most of the day stopping for lunch and generally stay on the trails till late afternoon.

Rausch Creek offroad Park is located in Tower City/Tremont PA area. It's a Pay-to-play park. Costs are $30 a day with a $10 one-time yearly membership fee.

My husband and I will most likely be in attendance helping out with the event, coaching, spotting, etc.

If you have any questions -feel free to ask!!
Hope to see ya there!

Good to see another one of these type of events coming around again.

BMJA's Jeep 101 meet in 2001 (9/9/01, to be precise) was what got me into off-roading. Been all downhill ever since...

and uphill...

and through water...

and over rocks...

and through trees...

and (well, you get the idea)

I'll be en route to Moab for the 25th that weekend, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a good turnout.

Good luck!

Rob

I'm planning to attend and sent an email with all my info.

Thanks for setting this up .... this will be my first time wheeling and I'm really looking forward to it.

Now I just need to pray my MJ passes inspection next week!!

Awesome!! You'll have a GREAT time!!

Good Luck with inspection. I know what a handful they can be here in PA.

Although I'm not new to wheeling, I'm planning on comming to this event and bringing the kids (7 and 5 years old). Running Greens will be a good introduction to off roading for them.

Very Cool!
The kids are always fun to watch. I've seen a variety of kids do a variety of different things while on the trails. Anything from falling asleep 30 minutes into the ride (jelly neck head bob) to jumping right in and grabbing the winch hook and walking it to the stuck vehicle. Ya never know what to expect!

I'm contemplating making the trip down from Massachusetts for this event.

I'm 100% new to intentional off-roading and I'm running an essentially stock 4WD 1999 XJ. I am setup with: 30's, hitched front and rear for recovery, full size spare, CB, fire extinguisher/first aid).

Will these trails be good for stockers? Are we talking rocks all the way or more like "unmaintained roads"? I'm gonna need to drive back home the following day! :looney:

Thanks!

It's a little bit of everything. Flat ground, with some rocks, some mud, some decents, hill climbs, obstacles that you can tackle if you want....and also dirt ruts & suspension twisters.
Yes, stockers can do this. And if you can't - then our trail guides picked the wrong trail. This wheelin 101 is for the stockers and new folks.

Here's some pictures of similar stocker friendly trips at Rausch Creek.

In this group of pictures - you'll notice a HUGE F450 Duellie Double Cab in there. That's the biggest rig we've had at the park ever and he left without a scratch. His driving skills were excellent! Some of the other pictures are of harder obstacles. Those obstacles are located on the sidelines of the easy trails - and you're more than welcome to try it if you think you can do it. We'll never deny anyone of the oppurtunity to try something unless we think it's unsafe.

And some more...older picts, but you get the idea.

I have a 01 grand STOCK, meaning no front tow hooks. I do have a reciever on the back. If I cant get my 89XJ that is built for this working by the weekend will I be allowed to run the grand?

Just got the 89 running so I Just need to change the rear seal on the transfer case and im good (unless something else breakes). still get back to me about the grand but I should be there either way.

The Grand Cherokee is more than welcome to go! I tink we might actually have one on the list already....

Hope everything works out for ya!

That was an awesome turn-out! 25 rigs!
Because the group was soooo large, I wasn't able to get picts of everyone or meet everyone. So if you're not in here - I apologize. I will try to post other picts from other folks as they become available.

But I must say...Doug coming down from Massachusetts! WOW!! That's pretty awesome! It was great meeting you and I hope you had a safe trip back. You did awesome! I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

The rest of the picts are here:

I have bigger sized picts if you want them, let me know!

If anyone is interested in these events in the future - shoot me your e-mail and I e-mail ya the next time we have this event!

Aw man that was a great time! It was my first trip in the dirt and the folks with Keystone Krawlers did a very nice job. It was a great introduction to wheeling and they gain a few converts on Saturday.

Wayne, Nancy, Steve, and Jandy were awesome guides... very helpful and informative. I had someone spot me over every pothole and pebble but it was a good lesson to figure out the capabilities (and limits) of my driving and vehicle. I would recommend anyone new to wheeling head down to Rausch Creek for a 101 w/ Keystone Krawlers.

Jandy - thanks for posting the pictures!

Best regards -
Doug

I give all the credit to YOU (Doug)... seriously.... For taking a "chance" and driving the whole way from Massachusetts to go wheeling with an unknown group of people who you've never met and didn't have any knowledge of... That takes a LOT of guts to do!!! Thankyou for taking trust in us....that means A LOT!!! I'm really glad we were able to make it worth the trip!!

And believe me....Watching you guys conquer the terrain and enjoy the trip is just as exciting for us as it is for you! The offroading hobby has been somewhat stale this past year for us because we haven't been out at all. That 101 trip was the perfect way to get the *excitement* back!! So - I THANK YOU for getting the blood flowing again!!

I hope you're able to find an offroad group closer to home so you can continue to explore your experiences. But you know, you're ALWAYS welcome to contact any of the Krawlers and come down and wheel with us!

Oh yeah, here's more picts:
