My opinion - use YJ flares on a 96 down XJ, or TJ flares on a 97 up. The TJ flares are more rounded and look more like 97+ stock flares and the YJ flares have some ribbing and edges that make them look more like 96-down stock flares. But hey, it's my opinion, take it for what it is
As for price, I just sold four rear TJ flares (two left, two right) for 40 bucks, and thought I did OK. They did sell pretty darn fast so maybe I underpriced em, but I'm happy. I paid 75 bucks for them, two transmission coolers, four 97+ heated/power mirrors, and some steering hardware at an all-you-can-carry junkyard day, so I wasn't really heartbroken either way, just trying to get my money back after I decided not to put them on my rig.
