What did you do to your XJ today

Worked on the Dirtbound rear Mojave bumper. Pulled the stock bumper off. Enlarged up the D-side frame rail opening. Welded the nut strip together and tack welded the mounting. Hopefully I can get P-side opened and welded tomorrow. Then I have put the stock bumper back on until the rest of the bumper can get fab'd up. I would just leave it off but I still need to DD it for a little while longer. Plus I want to drive up the the meet-n-greet tomorrow. That gas tank is precariously exposed without a bumper.

Since we live so close if you ever need a hand on your build give me a shout.

Thanks!

Been working between the raindrops last couple of days. What are you doing tomorrow (Tuesday)?

Got the brackets welded up solid and painted. Also most of the bumper shell is tacked together. Next step is to pull the stock bumper off again and finish tacking it together. Went solo without instructions because I didn't know they were available. Found them on DB site after cleaning up tonight. lol

Front nut strip bolt gave lots of problems. When you want the bolt to break and it won't. :( Then the rivet, Sheesh! Anyway I won!

Raw steel. Some of it rusted prior to shipping, in shipping, and on my workbench. Talked to DirtBound about it. They weren't worried, neither am I. Wire wheel cleaned it up nicely. I don't have a nice welding table nor do I have clamps and giant Crescent wrenches. But I do have a cut off wheel and weeny arms so I took that route.

I found this:

Which is awesome. I get to pull the carpet now.

I also found a puddle of coolant and power steering fluid under the jeep this morning. I have a fun weekend ahead of me.

Not finished yet. Still have to weld on the shackle tabs and paint. Ran out of days off work and I didn't want to put the stock bumper back on. I just shot some black primer to keep surface rust to a minimum until I get time to work on it again. Fab up went well and I kept the warpage to a minimum but once I burned in the receiver tube it went nuclear banana on me. Oh well I like to think of it as a tow preload now. It still bolted on mostly straight. Here's some pictures for the "pics or it didn't happen crowd". lol

Actually did this over the weekend. my dad got me these A pillar lights for Christmas and finally got around to installing them. Not the easiest install but came out pretty good.

Rear axle bearings and seals, brake lines from Master cylinder back replaced, muffler and tailpipe, sway bar bushings... Been a busy few days

Installed my DPG Sway Bar Disconnect Cables.

Surprised you all didn't catch this. Not so much the angle but the disco bracket goes on top of the sway bar not under. Should have read the destructions. Speaking of the angle though, JKS recommends 15* for optimal performance although 10-20* is acceptable. Dumb phone shows 12.4* but I'm parked on an incline and I have more lift in the back than front. I used the flat area near the sway bar mounts as a reference. It read 1*, so I originally installed it at 11.4*.

After bolting the Disco brackets to the sway bar, I noticed the brackets opened up enough I couldn't get the Disco bolts back in. Got them straightened out and the angle set at the preferred 15*.

Drilled holes, painted bare metal, and tightened down eye-bolts. Battery tray cracked but I'm not concerned. Will be buying a better tray, maybe Dirtbound.

Dirk at DPG offered to put quick disconnect clasp on both ends of the cable so that I can toss the cables in the glove box or where ever when not in use. Normally one end is fixed to the eye bolt. Thanks Dirk. I think they turned out great.

All in all it only took 3 minutes to install, or was it 3 hours? IDK, I'm off work today so I mostly farted around and didn't pay attention to the time. I drove over a rock pile by my driveway. No pictures as it was pouring down rain. Then I drove around the neighborhood disco'd to get a feel for less control. Surprised how well behaved it was even when I turned tight with some forward momentum. I'm comparing to stock suspension when I drove it without the front swaybar for a week. Definitely not recommended to run on road disco'd.

Going to order a IRO hack-n-Tap tonight and couple that with the front driveshaft I picked up from fellow NAXJA member meatjoeblack. I just need to get one new U-Joint because it's missing the caps. Oh and a couple of strap kits.
