The Press-Enterprise When the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians signed an agreement a few weeks ago, the sheriff and tribal chairman posed for photos side-by-side as they talked about their cooperative relationship.
But it was clear, as soon as the photo ops ended, that the two parties had different opinions on how much access deputies should have to the reservation. Tribal Chairman Robert Salgado said the deputies needed tribal permission to enter the reservation for anything other than 911 calls and hot pursuits; Sheriff Stanley Sniff said his deputies needed no such permission.
That difference of opinion has reached a breaking point, with Sniff announcing this morning that he is requesting the federal government shut down the casino. Sniff said he sent a letter Monday to the National Indian Gaming Commission, formally requesting the federal regulatory agency close Soboba Casino near San Jacinto.
Sniff announced the letter this morning at the Riverside County Board of Supervisors' meeting.
Sniff also has asked the FBI to review two officer-involved shootings that left three tribal members dead on the reservation in May.
County Supervisor Jeff Stone called for Soboba to replace Salgado as chairman and for residents to avoid the tribe's casino as unsafe.
"Unfortunately, tribal members at least from this tribe believe they are above the law," said Supervisor John Tavaglione. "I hope that Mr. Salgado will either show some leadership or step down."
C in later today to the county Web site to catch those and other strong criticisms of Salgado by Stone and others: http://209.128.123.171/ppportal/agenda/webcast.aspx

Whats been going on at Soboba???

Well, the root of the problem stems all the way back from when I worked at Morongo. However, Soboba has been in 3 shoot outs with law enforcement in one months time. That was a few months back now though.

Hemet P.D. chased a vehicle onto the reservation, stopped, shootout, nobody was hit, nobody was caught.

RSO chased a vehicle to the reservation, stopped, shootout, 1 indian dead, others got away

RSO responded to a shots fired call, got ambushed by numerous vehicles, 2 indians killed.

Selgado, the tribal chairman, says the sheriff's department is acting like it's the wild wild west, killing indians  He's such a fat slob moron. He also said RSO wasn't allowed on his res. CDF said they were no longer responding out there without a police escort, bla bla bla.

Recently, the indians have been buying a LOT of ammo at a local gun shop here in town... they're watching them heavy.

The bitchin' thing about the second shooting. Since the indians were shooting at the heli, they loaded up a deputy from the task force and sent him up there with an AR15. He got one of the kills. The other was a TOTAL ROOKIE who had just hit the streets a few weeks prior I think. He got quite the congratulations.

Better call Maxine Waters she will fix it! :looser:

Deputies have been getting shot at on the soboba reservation since the 70's. There is one family in particular, the Lugo's, who are known to shoot at deputies. The reservation is sort of a no (white) man's land where anything goes, as long as you are a soboba indian. I expect there will be hell to pay by deputies if their casino gets shut down, cuz then they will have to get off their fat asses and go steal to buy their drugs again.:smoker: Don't take this to mean I'm anti-indian. I am about 1/8 indian myself, but the facts are the facts. There are many indian tribes in California with whom we enjoy a great relationship:patriot:  , unfortunately, Soboba isn't one of them.:nono:

This post is in no way intended to be an insult to anybody.

Well said. I agree. Been living in hemet since 01 and I know the type of shit that those mofo's pull, and after everything goes down they go running back to the res.

Oh yea, Lugo's are A$$HOLES!!! Larry Lugo is the one who was wanted from Morongo, however they travel from tribe to tribe. I'm not sure if he's back out yet, I know they nabbed him a few months ago.

Fat Angie is another fun one, she was all up in arms and threatening everybody when Nino Garcia was gunned down in Palm Springs.

My mom's back porch is right on the saboba reservation in the north east corner of hemet. Absolutely nothing behind the house for miles. It's a pretty awesome view.

Darn, there's lots of land there, and sometimes I toy with the idea of taking my Jeep out there, maybe take my mom out and her friend, plus I could have a bed close by. But I usually think better of it. Now I definitely think better of it. Plus they've fenced off most of the access points by her house anyhow. There use to be dirt bikes out there all the time in the creek.

Sorry bro, you're a little too pale to survive out there. They would likely never find your bones :D
