Upgrades for stock battery terminals for multiple accessories?

MG2000XJ

NAXJA Forum User
Im looking for upgrades for my battery terminals in my new jeep. This has come about while starting work on my stereo.

I need room for my amp cable as well as spots for the stock cables and aftermarket accessories.

There are terminals like these, mainly used for car audio, which do not have a post or wire terminal for the stock cables and wires for accessories

There are also the standard brass terminals with a post like these, which would give me no other options other than ring terminals on the ends of cables/wires. Im not sure there is enought room on the post for say a 0awg cable plus others

Quadratec also carries these made for the JK which have multiple terminals for multiple gauge cables and accessories. All of them would still need ring terminals but they wouldnt all be stacked up on one another. Would these even fit a standard battery post?

Here is a diagram detailing the Quadratec terminals and what each terminal is used for

Something like the ones Quadratec sells is probably what Im looking for but I thought Id ask what you guys thought and see what you guys use.

Also what type of crimping pliers do you guys use for heavy gauge cable. I have the standard small wire crimps but what would I use for crimping ring terminals on alternator cables or amp cables.

Thanks for the help:cheers:

The best are the Military spec ones.

I had a local auto electric shop put on Deka terminals like 5-90 sells, along with crimping copper lugs on the factory wiring, so all I had to do was put new ring terminals on my added wires. $10 at the shop, already had the ring terminals for the lights, amp, fans, etc.

That QT part looks like a marine-style terminal with a bus bar added to it. Not sure I would pay $50 for those, when I can just throw a longer bolt in mine and have room for more connections for a couple bucks.

I can believe I am giving away my secret electrical supply house.
Here are the military type connectors from Waytek. It looks like there is minimum order of 3, so get a couple of buddies together, thay are less than $2.29 each. You will need to order the Positive and the Negative connectors

Most NAPA auto parts stores stock those terminals (I keep them in stock at my store and I am one of the smaller ones).

5-90 will gladly sell you terminals, but any boat shop has them--as he points out on his website.

I don't like hanging accessories off the battery. The alternator powers everything while the engine is running. I like to install a junction block then run the main feed from the alternator to the junction block, then run a charge line to the battery from there. Keeps things much neater.

So would the #'d cables be considered the AWG as opposed to the 2/0?

http://www.acehomeinspec.com/ELECTRICAL.html

Judging from the picture, the cables with 2/0, 4/0 etc have more strands per cable whereas the AWG has less...doing a cable upgrade most people list they use AWG which would be the same as a cable listed as # + a number like #2 correct?

They are all AWG sizes. But basically, yes, when people write 2, or #2, it is 2AWG. 2/0 (also written 00) is a different size, resistance per foot, and ampacity. I doubt many people run 2/0 in their Jeeps, and almost certainly not on a stock Jeep.
