Ugh... MPG

My 91 got 16 mpg when I first got it ,stock gears and tires,,,AND THEN it`s been down hill all the way after I started changing things ,12 mpg.. Now with a better engine in it I`m at 14 running around Tahuya and to work.

My 01 with 4.56s & 32s gets about 12.5 city & 17.5 Hwy, I have not been able to do any better with this combo. I think next time I need tires I will go up to 33s & see if going larger helps

When I ran 31s & 4.11s I got about 15 city & 20 Hwy, I feel that the 31/4.11 combo is the best compromise for dd/off road.

I've got 32's on stock gears and I stopped trying to figure out my mileage long ago. I think I get like 12-14 on the highway and like 9-10 around town. Mine is due for a good once-over before summer so that may help but I'm not holding my breath. 4.88's are in the future, just not the near future...

I check my mileage with each tank full. With 35's and 4.88's I average around 16.5mpg daily driving each day, and usually around 19mpg on the highway depending on speed (seen as high as 21mpg). The last couple tanks have had trail miles on them so I haven't been able to get an accurate reading for a couple weeks. I also have a corrected speedo so I know this is pretty accurate within 1-2mph.

Make sure your motor is tuned up (plugs, air filter, etc), air pressure is correct, and your geared properly.

Also, if you need a gear calculator I prefer this one.

You'll want 4.88's regardless though. I'd go deeper if I could.

Do you have an part number to correct my speedo? I need to do mine too. where also did you get the new gear from?

I think I ended up using a 38 tooth gear (#OEM.52068060). It's about 1-2 mph off, but it's close enough for me. Ideally I could have used a 39 tooth, but it was substantially more money. The speedo gear you need depends on your gear ratio, so you might want to hold off until you re-gear.

AllJeep.com has a good selection.

You can find what gear you need by looking here.

I did regear to 4:88 and I`m running 35`s so i`m wanting to get my speedo fixed. Are you an auto and 231 TC?
