U Joint vs. CV Type front axle shafts...

My 1989 XJ 4.0 w/ a NP242 just developed bad u-joints on the front axle shafts. My question is can they, or should they be replaced with the CV type axle shafts, or should I just swap out the U Joints? Thanks in advance.

U joint ones are stronger that the CV type found on Grands, from what Ive read.

Get a new u joint, or just replace the whole shaft.

Cheapest way..get the CV joints...they come off the axle.

replace the u-joint or find a new set of shafts with the 297 joints. I got mine off ebay for $150. As far as using the C.V. Type shafts there is a reason they are so cheap. They are very weak and the first time you get it in a bind you will get to pick up all those little ball bearings and the pieces of metal that exploded from the joint. Just guess how I know!
