To those of you who are married or engaged how did you pop the question? Simple at a dinner or something crazy? Just trying to get some ideas.

Had something planned out. Got to nervous and just asked. It worked out well!

I asked her right before thunder over Louisville. Its the opening cerimony for the Ky derby festival. Its the largest fireworks show in the world, at that time of the year until the next show somewhere else adds 1 firework to the mix.

Popped the question in Sedona, AZ.

First place she ever went wheeling, and where we got married. Just asked her on the side of a hill, overlooking the Red Rocks.

HAHA, same here!!

I was planning on taking her to Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite and asking there...ended up going out to dinner instead and did it on one knee with the whole resturant watching...they clapped after she said yes, it was very cool! Here we are 3 1/2 years later and go there for lunch/dinner alot with our 2 year old. :)

Vacation from hell

3 days of food poisoning, transmission went out on the RV, hiking in the blast zone of Mount St. Helens, she sprained her ankle. While I was wrapping her ankle, I said, "It can't get any worse, Will you marry me?"

My story is alot like jfrose's story. I had the ring custom made and had the whole thing planned out with a fancy dinner etc..and then I got too anxious and asked her while we were pulling into the grocery store....I am not much of a romantic you could say! I felt alot safer with that diamond ring on her finger then I did with it in my posession....I was living in the fraternity house at the time..she is lucky I did not pawn it off for booze money and a bunch of one dollar bills for the strip clubs!! I guess it all paid off, that was 8 years and one kid ago...and counting!

Me and my now wife where working on her Cherokee's bumper, and what she didn't know was I placed her ring & a note in her old broken up vacuum canister the night before... when we were removing the old bumper... when she took the canister out, and heard something rattling inside... she took it out, and read the note saying "you've put up with me for so long that I just wanted to say..." on one side and when she flipped it over "will you marry me?" ... she flipped, and said yes...
All i have to say is ask her somewhere, or doing something you both love to do... that way you'll both remember... even if it's ordering a pizza and placing it on top of it and having her open it... (how my father asked my mother) just make it special to the two of you... even if others don't understand why... it only matters to the two of you... and future congrats

Went to the a park with a lake at the foothills of the Rockies here in colorado up by Niwot.. sat by a tree, got on my knee asked her.. we will always have a happy happy joy joy memory! LOL [1st kid was with us and our dog too] it was cool..
-Romantic- and that way we can always go back there too.

I was po at the time, so I asked her at Wal-Mart. I had just talked to her father and gotten his approval and didn't feel like waiting. I bought a 25 cent ring at the machine and when she looked at me funny I asked her. I was gonna get down on one knee right there in the entrance to Wal-Mart but figured she'd probable run.

I was going to wrap her ring for Christmas, but she was really sick. We were hanging out a week or 2 before and she fell asleep watching a movie, and I just slipped it on her finger while she was sleeping. The look on her face when she woke up and noticed it was the greatest.

Rode in on a firetruck with lights and sirens blaring. She was a part-time firefighter at the time (full-time now) so I called her chief and pulled some strings. We were at her family's house and they were all in on it. They distracted her while I ran down to the station and climbed aboard. Her brother is a cop and he "escorted" the engine to the house in his cruiser (lights and sirens also) and got the whole thing on his dashcam. Do something unique to the 2 of you, be original, and congrats dude.

Ha!

Similar situation, Mt Rainier though. :D Had gone camping with some friends of mine who were bickering with each other all weekend and yelling at their kids. Having a shitty time and I had already planned on popping the question up at Sunrise. Well, my wife didn't handle the switchbacks on the way up too well (back of a minivan talking to my friend's wife) and got very car sick. She held it together until we got to the top. She was able to eat lunch but still felt very crappy. My friend started filming the kids running around and I took the cue to pose with her. She said, 'No pictures, my hair is a mess!' I said, 'That's OK, there'll be plenty of time for them later...that is if you'll marry me.' Pulled out the ring and she said, 'WHAT? OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG....'

I said, 'So? Don't leave me hangin'!' 'OMG YES!'

She forgot about her motion sickness after that. :D

I waited until the finale of the 4th of July fireworks was nearly over and we headed into the car, then I just asked her as the last fireworks were going off. We've been together for 5ish years so neither of us thought it was a big deal.

I had been saving for a ring for quite some time, and then spent the saved money on the down payment for a GSXR 750. I waited another month or two and she found a ring on sale and took me to get it. I was 20 and she was 18. Almost 8 years and 2 kids later we are still very happy.
