I have a chance to pick up a 1989 Comanche with, 4.0, 5 speed, and 4wd for a good price.

I've only recently started learning to drive a stick using peoples cars at the shop I work at. :shhh:

So I'm wondering, how hard are these to learn on?

I do hear the AX-15 is a pretty easy one to use.

I learned how to drive stick in my XJ. My only gripes is the lack of synchros for reverse and if stuck in stop and go traffic, it gets hard to shift into first after a while.

Unless it was swapped, 89 will have the BA10/5. Still, simple enough.

i learned on a 5 speed cherokee. It was a little rough but it hardly stalled. Now that I have a 4.0/ax15 with 4.56 gears and 33" tires it can take off from first just by letting the clutch out on flat ground. i love the torque of the 4.0 :us:

AX15 used after 3-9-89 in the MJ, 4.0, 4WD.

OP--check the production date of the Comanche.
