Thanks Tyler..Just like you im free to move but just have been skipped over...Just jump in head first and make it happen with your jeepspeed project.

sweet rig. looked awesome at koh this year

Goodluck!
I look forward to seeing you next year st koh

I have everything I need now for the new dash build. We are using summit racing gauges, and this new Prime4x4 switch panel.

Should come out nice!

Well the Jeep is at Letzroll Offroad in Mesa and Jim is tackling the dash project.
Here is the beginning:

Here it is with the factory dash removed...well what was left anyways:

And here it is stripped and wires gutted!

So far so good as Jim is a genius when it comes to electrical. Remember the plan is to build a full dash out of aluminum and insert the panels and gauges to be both functional but form. The main gauges will be off centered to allow the co driver to see them with the switch panel from prime4x4 centered but wire the important stuff closer to me and the accessories closer to the co driver. We are also going to try and insert the GPS in to the dash to allow the co driver a view of the course in front of us incase the GPS acts up or goes down. Plan is to mount it in the lower left side of the grab bars to be able to be seen by both driver and co driver but still allow the co driver to work it. I just want to see MPH off of it!
You can also see the center console is gone as well. Jim will be building a custom center console as the stock factory one bounced around and was annoying but more importantly to give him a place to mount the RADesigns Baja II rail shifter. The shifter will hold gears and allow me to drive the jeep as a manual with out the clutch...I hear the cool kids do it so I figured why not.

More dash project:
CAD layout (Cardboard Aid Design)

Adding some bracing to support the weight of gauges, GPS, switch panel and everything else stuffed in it

And mock up of some aluminum pieces to make the dash come back together

stay tuned

I promised more, so more you get!
Here is the dash with all the tin cut and in place along with the www.prime4x4.com switch panel. You need switches or panels check them out as they can build or get you what you need quickly.

The prime4x4 panel and gauges in! I will now be able to monitor the vitals such as; engine coolant temps, oil pressure, tranny temps, volts and RPM's so I know when to shift the RADesgin Baja rail shifter.

and another angle

Gauges and panel could be wired and running by the end of the weekend. Still need to flush mount the race radio and intercom and build a bracket to mount the GPS below the grab bars to allow the co-driver to monitor both GPS and course in front and gives me the ability to see the MPH off the GPS out of my right eye..Building this for function and form.

UPDATES?? This is great timing for my build! Keep posting!! :D
Thanks,
Billy

Dash is finished and working great. Its nice having everything with in arms reach and working gauges to monitor the vitals of the car. I got a few things to do for the upcoming race but will try and get some photos tomorrow.

Sorry for slacking on this as once the car was finished we did a few other things then prepped for a race which we took 3rd in class in...

Any ways the dash is finished and everything works great! Its so nice to have gauges that function, plus everything is with in reach and sight. My co-driver likes the GPS being lowered because now they can see the course as well. Having the race radios and intercom recessed adding to the cleanliness and simplicity of it all. Everything is wired to the prime 4x4 switch panel then runs to a fuse and or relay the to a master circuit breaker that is resettable. Super happy with this project.

Here is the dash finished(sorry photo I took from our instagram account):

We also installed the prime 4x4 rock lights as summer in Arizona is here so we will be using them extensively during our night wheeling runs.

Been going through the jeep and changing some things along with doing a look over for KOH 14'
painted the cage flat black, bed lined the floor, rotated the fuel cell

Removed rear hatch saving a few pounds, painted rear facing light bar and re-installed. Then started playing with new tire placement. C-rok and I are going to be coming up with a design to build a simulated rear hatch/tire combo.

So haven't been to busy just doing some stuff to get ready for next season. Did some fluid changes and swapped in my new deaver parts then headed over to C-rok engineering and manufacturing to get some work done.
We started by cutting my old heavy solid bumper off and adding a C-rok pre-runner style front winch bumper that not only shaved a good 25-30 pounds but also increased my approach angle.

After that was done we turned our attention to the rear and discussed what to do as a tire carrier. I told him I wanted to be able to carry my spare tire, spare drive shaft and mount my tool bags and spare bag underneath keeping everything in one location. this is what we came up.

Tire carrier is sick Matt, I think it would be cool if you put the hatch back on and cut around the tire. Does the front light bar impede vision? Cherokee's hood are a PIA sometime to look over so I figure that would suck.

Tyler yeah the rear came out nice and it would be pretty cool to see the hatch on but eehh... As for the light bar yes it does obscure some of my vision but planning on some changes for 2014. Thinking of going to 40-50" on the roof line off the A pillar and 12-16" off the bumper in amber.
