Just got home within the hour. It was an enjoyable weekend. It was fun driving up and down the parkway and having Jeep after Jeep to wave at coming down the other side of the road. Lots of Jeep-watching.
The show was ok. Nothing that I need to clear my schedule for next year. I'd go if I was free that weekend. The show, as predicted, was almost exclusively JK and TJ - and a lot of them were pavement pounders. After seeing the 100th one in the parking lot they all started to look alike. I did walk the entire parking lot and found about 20 XJs and 2 MJs. Spoke to a few of the XJ owners and left
cards on all of them! The show, we stayed about 3 hours. The raffle was a lot of Wrangler-centric swag and most of the vendors were catering to them as well....which, from a business standpoint I can certainly appreciate. It was cool though, because we got done with the show early enough to ride go-karts on the parkway!
I stayed at a KOA. First time in a corporate campground. It was nice to have a pool, and kids activities, and an air conditioned room with a TV and computer. I'd definitely look at corporate campgrounds in the future. It was our first stay in the new 10 x 20 three room tent. Slept like a baby on a new queen air mattress and 65* weather.
The Jeep trip to Cades Cove was fine. We spotted about 9 miles from the scenic loop. That loop is another 11 miles. I pulled out at 11:09, and got back to the spot location at 1:30. We had around 200 Jeeps. It was a sight to see. They had the cops on the highway to block traffic to get us all out. The trip around the cove was very scenic for the first 8 miles. The last 3 were just "get me out of here - this is taking forever."
Here are some pictures of some of the Jeeps that I liked and the spotting for the Cades Cove ride.
