Skywalk

Anyone been following this? Opening day is supposed to be soon. That is a tremendous amount of steel and a ton of welding. Hope the welders knew what they were doing. I think it's going to be 75 bones to get out on the 4000 foot, plexiglassed floor structure that overhangs the Grand Canyon. We're talking about checking it out this summer.

See I had read somewhere that it was $25 to get out on the platform but $50 to access the Native American land that it's on.

According to CNN American Morning (yes, I am still watching Mindless O'Brien and Solonad O'Brien) it's $50 to get onto the reservation and $25 to get onto the skywalk for 15 minutes. Also, no cameras or cell phones. According to CNN, the tribe is concerned that a percentage of visitors are sure to drop their cameras and phones, and given the number of visitors they expect, over time the accumulation of hardware under the skyway would negatively impact the canyon. Yeah, right  I wonder how much they're charging for postcards? :D

Yeah, I'm not too impressed with that whole thing. $75!!!! I can get the same thril just walking to the edge on the free side of the canyon.

Thanks but no thanks.

The Dine dont like the use of snow making machines on the SanFrancisco Peaks in Flagstaff, but they whore themselves out with the Skywalk.

As long as the money goes into their pockets, it is all good, but if they don't see any, then the mountain is sacred.

Bunch of BS if you ask me.

No, I won't be checking it out.

Hmm, I wonder how many basejumpers will be paying a visit to that, would make for a fun jump.

Screw that, they should just build a rollercoaster down the grand canyon, it would be much more ammusing than that.

Ha ha they should put some slot machines at the end of that thing! We all know the Indians love the Casinos, well the white man love them and the Indian man love the White man money........

I like the rollercoaster idea!

Down one side and up the other - and back - all in 60 seconds!

O trust me, there will be more to it than that, I envision a giant cork screw like section, sort of like one of those gumball machines, straight down the canyon, of course there will also be the straight down drop, and it will do it in 45 seconds.

Rocket propelled?

Go to Toroweep Point on the north rim. You can drive within 0.4 mile (but 3000 feet above) the river. It's a GREAT jeep trip and the campground is free too! It is about 60 miles from the nearest paved road but that helps keep the crowds to a minimum.

Ooops, there is no glass between you and the river, if that is important to you.

The Skywalk is 1.5 miles from the river. Do you see the Colorado in any of those photos?
