Should I Increase the Gap of my Spark Plugs?

So, all that to gap your plugs one thousandth of an inch larger than stock?

I'm confused.

Some people have to leave home, to realize there is no place like home.

I like the methodology used by UncleSarge58. If I had a dyno in my back yard, I might be a little more meticulous...

From my experience with plug gap if you increase the gap it puts more stress on other parts of the system.Such as arc through in rotors ,caps ,plug boots etc.The spark takes the path of least resistance.l don't think .040 would cause this but you don,t know. I ran across this problem in mid70s GM hei systems, they were using crazy wide plug gaps and they were arcing through rotors causing poor performance. Dropped back to.035 new rotors problem went away. Something to think about.
