Looks viable. I was going to suggest something similar, with washers and a spring. which I dimly recollect seeing in a similar setup.

I'm no engineer. I usually tend to use more material than necessary and over complicate when fabricating things. My parts will come out cumbersome and heavy, but it works. This piece is a prime example.
