NP231 wont engage into 4wheel HIGH?

i put a 1996 np231 on my 1994 4.0 AX-15 XJ, and it will engage in to 4wheel low, but not 4wheel high. when i put it in the 4wheel high slot it acts like its in neutral. any ideas?

this normally would not be a problem, but im having to drive to and from work in 4wheel low, b/c my rear driveshaft decided to see how many car it could bounce over down the highway the other day.

Is the shift linkage adjusted correctly?

i was actually thinking that could be a reason. the guy i bought the jeep from put a TJ shifter on there and i took it off and put a '96 shifter on. but im pretty darn certain its on there right.

That's entirely possible. Maybe what you think is 4lo is really 4high?

i guarantee you in the exchange of shifters and what not the shift linkages on the bottom of the jeep need to be re-adjusted.
