well i think its time for a new car. im not gonna sell my XJ im just in need of a commuter car. when i saw commuter car i mean something turbo-ed, small, lightweight, and preferably fast. im a junior in high school so think about that kind of budget but i am looking for ideas on car makes. cars arent my thing so i dont know many makes. the newer the better. i dont plan on being a little b!tch ricer becasue i can smoke most of them with stock gears and 33 inch tires as is in my jeep.

help a guy out, just in need of opinions with pros and cons of each.

thank you all :)

Quitter! :D VW Jetta TDI. Can be quick with a few upgrades and 50+ mpg on the highway! I'm getting one around February. May go test drive a couple friday to get a feel for them.

How much are you willing to spend?

TDIs can still cost a pretty penny on the used market unfortunately...

junior in HS and two cars......high roller!

FWIW: My 01 T/A is a good complement to the XJ, beat the pants off most cars on the road, and gets 28mpg. Insurance would probably kill the gas savings though.

Are you actually worried about the mileage? Or just want another toy?

i am a junior in high school yes, but the state has a program so i take all my classes at one of the community colleges so i do not go whipping into the parking lot at a million miles an hour.

lets say $6000 is my limit

i am a high roller... haha no not really as good as my car looks it doesnt seem to pick up many chicks.

urban yan: i am saving that picture :)

If you ARE at least slightly interested in an TDI you should check out the forums over at tdiclub. And I prefer the golf over the jetta, but there always comes a little bit of cost. But for the purpose of awesome mileage and decent power, definitely worth it.

well i want a car to be my DD that way if i great something big on the jeep im not sitting at home.

anyone know anything about preludes? 4th generation 92-96.

Avoid the insurance spike with a turbo. I would get a VW Jetta or Gold with a VR6. Faster than a lot of other cars but can easily be built even faster.

or you can get a mans car a convertable 5.0L Mustange and laid. They are also easy to work on and shouldn't too bad on insurence maybe...

thats the problem with you high school kids. you worry more about what people think, than what YOU actually enjoy. sounds like you know what you want to drive so get it and drive. :soapbox: /rant :D

but good luck with it. +1 of VW, im also a fan of audis....... and if a girl will hook up with you only because of the car you drive, you probably dont want to touch her with a 10ft pole.......

Preludes are pretty decent cars, I've driven a few and they have good power and handling. I have a 91 CRX and I really like it, but I'm starting to get bored of the front wheel drive. If you want a really nice looking sports car, look into the early to mid 90's nissan 300zx. Even without the turbo, they are plenty quick. They look great in my opinion. And the ladies will love the T-tops if you get that option, and its better than driving a convertiblelastara

Mustangs are popular with peelers and dudes on viagra. Did I say dudes? Sorry, I meant to say duds.

sheesh. why not just tell him to roll up his money into a big cigar and smoke it ...because mid 90s 300z were notorious on repairs.

Personally, I'm still a big fan of the 97-2001 Preludes, but - believe it or not -they weren't too good on gas, and they run premium.
