So with mine being a total loss, I'm in the market for a new rig. Prefer stock 95+ 2 door but am open to others with less than 175k miles. Have about 4k to spend, maybe a bit more if its worth it.

TOP 3 pics as of right now:

too bad you didn't have like 8k, you could walk up to this guy with 8000$ and probably drive home in in it, atlas and all kinds of goodies
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/4359444006.html

see if you can get this guy down to 4400$, badass rig, 44 front, 5.13s and more:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/4353957012.html

this one is a good deal since its geared and locked which is 1800$ savings right there, id show up with 1850$ or so, start the bidding with 1400$ cash, and take it home
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/4331388860.html

The rest I found:

I wouldn't pay more than 1200$ for this one:

This one is a total ripoff:
really worth only about 1000$ as it sits, stay away from this sort of thing:

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/4324275743.html

I wouldn't pay more than 900$ for this one:

make sure you weight the benefits of a cheaper rig(a 1500$ rig means you have 2500$ to buy parts for) versus getting a cleaner newer rig with less stuff for say 4000$.

or take a loan out and buy that badass one in reno and call it done.

this one is a ripoff. doesn't say if its locked and geared, and its a 1500$ jeep all day long:

damn jon those are 2 of the best cherokees I've seen on craigslist in awhile. nice

my experience with buying 5 or so craigslist cherokees has not been great. you've got the right budget so find a good one. IMHO do NOT buy a 95 or 96 cherokee. these are 2 of the least reliable years I've seen. get something 91-94, or 97-99. those are the best years

unless you're into that weirdo renix junk..

if you're interested in a 94 with 91k miles, I'm selling mine soon, but price will range around 5,500.

RE 5.5" LA with Bilstein 5125
ORO Uturn steering setup with Clayton HD trackback and drop bracket
35" BFG Mud terrains, 90% tread left
D30 HP 4.56 with Detroit TruTrac
D44 4.56 with ARB locker
231 with SYE
Integrated tube sliders with tube bumpers (custom fabbed, front bumper tied into sliders)

super clean, no dents, little to no scratches, and proud to say "not leaking"

I'll be posting it up for sale next month.

John, I saw the Reno one the other day. I'm still drooling over it. But that's too much right now and I would like to eventually build to that, not buy it. But who knows, maybe I'll do a small loan and make up the difference.

I'm holding out for a good one, for now mines driveable til I get the salvage paper work filed and then I just need to slap a bumper on it and rig up a horn to make it street legal again. It's getting high in mileage and will need work. Trans tunnel cracked( found out when replacing seats), mild rust forming inside, new tires/rims, and will need to work on the front end. So I'm trying to get a clean one to DD/mild trails until I know if I landed a job in April or not. Might be doing lots of driving if I get it and need a truck/SUV.

Huh. Didn't post last night for some reason. I'm interested, might be able to get a little closer to that number. Happen to have some pics?

you say that Exo caged XJ with a 44 front and 8.8 rear , all regard to 5.13s and much much more only 5800$ OBO right? in the above posts?

DUde i have glass ill put a window in it for free if you got it.

Oh hahah. I think I didn't click that one! Wow. And I even like the paint.

It's got to be street legal though. I don't see plates or a rear window.

I sent him a few texts. awaiting reply.

The smog and reg thing could be a way to get the price down, way down....

I mean what could it need?
a cat, a tune up, o2 sensor, maybe a exhaust manifold and gasket? that stuff is cheap and easy, way easier than doing all that other work to it to a new rig. run some sea foam and acetone through the gas.

shoot I just saw its a 98. I don't have a window for that.

it would be easy to get a junkyard hatch and paint it black and just cut out the tire holder in the back. thats easy work.

I'll shoot him a text later to see what it needs to be street driven. I will have daily drive it until the job I'm hopefully getting in April starts and I'm able to buy a beater truck for work after a few paychecks. And I won't have a tow rig to the trails either. I'd be stoked to get something like that but have to be realistic about my situation.

He said it needs o2 sensors, cat, and a charcoal canister, he bought it for trail only I guess .

yah I understand about being realistic . is it going to be a DD? if you have a beater DD, that could buy you time to get this in line.

id rather weld up a cat, install o2 sensors, and even a manifold over building a cage, buying a 44 front all built same for the 8.8, and all the other stuff.

he said he is letting it go for cheap. if you talked him down to 4000$ cash you could have a 1500$ budget to get it to smog, and get plates, compared to buing a 5500$ rig and then spending a ton of money on a 44 front, headlocks, cage, 8.8 rear.

he seems fairly firm on 5800$

how about a v8 zj on long arms front and rear with a 9' in back on 33'? its my other rig. pm if interested.

this is before the 9 swap.. sits a little taller in back now. other wise its the same

Insurance company is dragging their feet again. If my paperwork isn't here today, I will be calling and talking to her supervisor. Twice now that the lady I talked to has not delivered the proper information about what's going on.

That's one of the better deals I've seen as well. Thanks for posting it!

this is coming down slowly. he needs to be at like 6000$.

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/sno/4403846925.html

I dunno jon. he has a ton of money and fancy parts into that. I could see why he's asking that much. and I could see him getting it. that thing could be a really sick crawler with just a little tweaking

he could probably part it out for $6000. honestly I'm rooting for him to get 8 lol. gives me hope for my own resale values
