It's amazing the deals you can find these days...

I'm usually not a very lucky person when it comes to finding smokin' deals...but finally some luck fell into my lap.

An old co-worker of my brothers ran into my brother a few weeks ago at Qdoba, and mentioned that he was thinking about selling his XJ. After talking with him a bit, he said he'd let it go for $2,000 bucks. The XJ is a '98 with 109,000 miles on it. Had OR-Fab bumpers front and rear, a Yakima roof rack, K&N air intake, H4 conversion head lights, a brand new Sony MP3 deck in it, and some new black steel rims. He also threw in the stock rims for it a well.

So without hesitation, my brother bought it from him. We took all the goodies off of it, and threw them on my brothers XJ.....and I bought it from him for $2,000 as a winter driver for my wife.

Here is some pics. I'm not a fan of the color at all....but for my wife, it's perfect!

It needed a wax job BADLY!! Here is a comparison.... He also removed the trim on the sides, but didn't strip the double sided tape off of it. So it was sun baked badly, and took forever to remove.

The flares were faded to crap...so I did a little masking and painted them up

The interior is flawless!! Cleanest interior I have seen in an XJ....makes mine in my XJ look like a pile of crap!

Overall this Jeep is incredibly clean. The paint could use someone that knows how to use a buffer proper, to go over it again and really bring the color back, but my hand wax did wonders. It also needs some new steering, but other than that it's mechanically sound.

I need to finish painting the bumper caps and put those back on, other than that, all it needs is license and insurance and it's ready to rock! It'll remain pretty much stock...maybe a 3" lift and some 31's, but nothing to exciting.

I think I got a pretty smokin deal on it, and my brother got a great score on some really nice parts!!

I really like the design/look of those or-fab bumpers... great buy-
For FREE???, Yeah, hard to beat FREE!!! I think your brother is a scoundrel. :hang:

Good score, all around! :)

Nice score, it looks very clean.

Nice!

PS - the flares unclip easily, next time you paint a set, you can undo a bolt or two, unclip them, spraybomb till your hearts content, then clip them back on.

I actually was going to take them off, but I had two bolts snap on me while trying to loosen them. I didn't want to risk breaking any more, so I just spend the time and masked them off. Took a little while, but it worked out.

Here it is out in the sun with the flares painted up. I ran out of paint last night to finish the bumper caps...so that'll get done tonight. I'm debating whether to keep the front bumper that's on there now ( it's off a '96 ) or put the other bumper on with the bigger plastic end caps....? Opinions?

think the bigger caps would be better for a DD. flows better, and cant have the wifey driving something that looks goofy.

That's what I was thinking. I really don't like the looks of the older style bumper like the one that's on there ( I just put it on because it was handy ). The newer caps look better IMO.

What lift/tire size is he running? I'm looking at a similar set-up.

Put the newer caps back on, and find some nice alloys: ravines, eccos, etc. And that will be a nice looking Jeep for the wife. You could also keep your eyes peeled for stock, color matched bumpers/flares.

I forgot to post up the pics with the bumpers back on a painted. I like the looks of the newer bumper a lot better. I had to do some major tweaking to this one to make it look decent. It was the bumper off of my brothers Jeep, and it was pretty bent up and not very square. So after a little persuasion with a hammer, it turned out pretty decent.

This damn color is hard to get a good picture of. Almost every pic it looks black!

I'm going to try and find some different rims to throw on it. The black steel ones just don't look right IMHO.
