Hmm OK so...
1. I took a swipe and compared the American Way with greed, based on what someone posted.
2. Been acused of being in the closet.
3. -and- a right winger.
4. Do not hide my support for a national health care plan
5. -or- a good public education system
6. nor hide my disdain for NAFTA
I believe that for the USA and the Western World to remain strong and free that a healthy and educated workforce needs to be available to produce the goods and services that make a strong economy.
For Good Bourbon, you are correct, I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OWN HEALTH for my own welfare. However paid medical plans are part of overall compensation for my labor. As I tell folks I work with, the military gives us free medical not because they want to, they want a healthy fighting force, hence the "required" immunizations to all the exotic diaseases that don't exist in the US. Likewise, it is my belief that it is in our country's best interest to have a healthy workforce available. If employers won't provide, for whatever reason, than there needs to be a national health plan for the general populace to promote good health.
Same with education, if we put as much effort into education as we do the football fantasy leagues or having Lil Johnnie trying out for little league we would not need to import as much educated and skilled labor (DRs, Lab Techs, engineers) as we do. Those folks that came here to make a better life for their family back home. That's right, earning US dollars and exporting that wealth back overseas supporting their parents and other extended families. I witnessed 1st hand when i worked as a bus mechanic. Many immigrants from all over the world that were here in the US for one reason, a better life back home...their country. Why? because our public education system is not working and is underfunded. Just look at some of the posts here regarding basic HS civics, spelling errors cuased not just from fat fingered typing but the lack of the three "R's".. I was told in another thread that education, spelling and grammar are over rated.
NAFTA well this was a conservative idea, signed into law by a liberal, strengthened by another conservative and will lead to the loss of National Sovereignty. A trade corridor dissecting this country between Canada and Mexico. To not infringe on the "trade" of goods between our neighbors, we cannot tariff or tax these items coming through our country. The vehicles hauling these products up and down this corridor will not be requuired to check in until Kansas!!! It's a bad idea.
So in closing I offer up a piece of historcal writing that has a socialist bent in taht it speaks about helping each other on the road to success, getting along fairly and equally, watching out & sticking up for each other when facing an enemy or the times get tough, making sure that everyone enjoys being a free man....
