First thing I would check would be the injector and fuel pressure regulator o-rings. I think you should look for fuel leaks. The computer adjusts for running rich.
More than likely a leak somewhere. Find where the smell is the strongest and start there but know that it could be anywhere from the tank itself all the way along the fuel line up into the engine bay.
Gotta put your time in to find leaks. No shortcuts really.
A cracked header sends a too-lean reading to the downstream O2 sensor and the ECM compensates with extra fuel causing a rich condition and eventually fouling your cat.
No leaks. I think islander is on the right path. 200,000 miles on the truck and cat might be bad. Need to really go through it and look for leaks i guess. But theres no bad leaks I could see.
