how important is a spare np231

I know a place I can get one that is in working used condition for 75$, I'm a bit new to jeeps and I'm tempted to get it so that I can rebuild it off the truck, but is it an item that is likely to ever be needed as a spare? I ask because my collection of parts for the wifes jeep is expanding rapidly

How hard do you wheel? Is your Jeep stock? Have you ever broken one before? The NP231 is pretty stout for a chained transfer case.

I've got a 6.5 lift on order for it, and a jb sye, and its going behind an ax15 and a 4.7 stroker I'm putting together

I would grab it, rebuild it with the wider chain and sprockets like the NP231D has, then swap it in and keep the stock one for a spare or sell it.

Buy it and make a doubler with it.

That's dirt cheap. I say buy it, see how yours holds up, and sell it later on (for a profit, of course ) if you feel like your unit will hold up.
