help/won't shift into 4x4

I just installed a SYE and removed the 1" spacers on cross member. Finished but waiting on drive shaft. Wanted to pull out of garage to clean up but it wont go into 4H or 4L. I removed linkage and cannot shift by hand. I don't think I put it together wrong. Could not having a drive shaft have anything to do with this?:sure:

you cut the shaft down in the transfer case?

when doing the sye install the tc should have been set in 4L to begin with that way you could tell whether you would have to cut the shaft down.

Damn it. Should have read instructions. Can I fix this without splitting the case in half?
