Gas Prices

Bright side, we dont live in Calif. Not at all a bash on Boss, but it is on Calif.
No disrespect intended at all. On the contrary all your towns should have names describing the beauty your surrounded by, like Buttecrest, Cedarwood, Lonepine for example. If any town in this great USA should be called BEAVERTOWN its San Fernando Valley the capital of porn films.

My jeep averages 15-16mpg Premium... on the way to TSF..

Truck averages 15-16mpg Diesel.. Towing the jeep..

I'm saving money.. While eating Cheese burgers, picking my nose, scratchin my arse, posting on naxja.. etc etc while towing.. Wether the jeep comes home in one piece or not!
I get about 14 to 18 depending on my foot weight with my 03 7.3 diesel 4x4 Ford van.

I know I can fill up in Vancouver, wheel all day in TSF and make it back on a tank ( I just take out a second on house to pay for it ). I can do sand lake but I do stop on the way back just to make sure the tank is full, I don't want to be that guy. I want to start car pooling with Eric!!

Its 4.45 here last weekend on the southend of the Island and 25 miles north in Oak harbor its 4.21 Its lame but atleast I live up on the Northend of Whidbey.

I lived on whidbey just outside of oakharbor. Isnt it crazy that you are paying those types of prices with the refinery 20min away. Your paying about $ .25 more then us down here. I do love it up there and miss it.

PORTLAND, Ore. - According to a new report, gas prices in the Northwest never should have gotten so high and may have been inflated on purpose.

KATU News has also learned that big oil may have been making $50 million a day from drivers in Oregon and Washington.

The price at the pump should reflect crude oil, which is way down. But while the rest of the country has enjoyed saving close to 20 cents a gallon, drivers in Oregon and Washington have had to cough up 65 cents more.

"I think I saw something in the South that was as low as $3.13 a gallon. And here we're paying almost $4.30," said driver Spencer Knuttila.

Portland economist Robert McCullough helped expose Enron. His new report "Analysis of West Coast Gasoline Prices" released June 5 says oil refineries may have intentionally created a supply shortage this spring just to charge Northwest drivers inflated prices, and they reportedly made almost $50 million a day because of it.

"In terms of gasoline, we're an island," he said during a KATU News interview.

The price problem started with a fire at the Washington BP refinery.

"Strangely enough, the refineries in California continued with their scheduled maintenance. Suddenly the inventory of gasoline on the West Coast plummeted to some of the lowest levels in history. Not surprising, suddenly the price shot through the roof," McCullough said. "We'd like to know why all of these guys needed repairs at the same time."

According to the report, evidence does not support the cited explanation that refinery shutdowns were causing the price spike; instead, the report says Energy Information Administration "data would appear to indicate that the refinery capacity should have been sufficient to meet the shortfall caused by fires and maintenance shutdowns."

The region, however, is finally starting to get a break.

In the last week a gallon of gas in Washington went from $4.26 to $4.14. In Oregon the price dropped from $4.23 to $4.10.

But McCullough says Northwest drivers should really be paying $3.51.

U.S. senators in Oregon and Washington also think the price of gas is out of line. They're demanding a federal investigation.

Unlike other commodities, there's no government watchdog agency that oversees the oil companies. McCullough says consumers know more about artichoke prices than oil prices. That's why the Federal Trade Commission has been asked to investigate.

Have a friend that just came back for a visit here, she said they are paying a dollar less in Columbia Missouri. Yeah were getting screwed.

Yes we are, but what can we do? Reduce oil dependency? Drive less?

The NW population depends on driving. My cars drive from Yelm to Tacoma 1-2 times per day.

What we did:
Primary driver: 2008 Chevy Aveo. Cheapest model I could find in 2008. Only accessories in the car, I have added. Stereo, window tint, CAI, Header. Pending on what tires are on her and the time of year, we get 32-37 mpg.

Secondary/family driver: 2006 Town & Country. All of the bells & whistles.
Gets 19 to 22 mpg, based on who is driving, my wife or myself. Tows our PUP, if on vacation, unless headed to the beach.

Third/family toy/Extreme weather vehicle: 1996 Jeep Cherokee. When I bought the Aveo it was my driver. At the high gas prices of that time, the difference made my car payment. The Jeep only gets driven in the worst of NW bad weather and if the heat is too much and I want A/C. If we want tow the camper to a beach, the jeep is in use. Gas mileage has been consistently under 15 mpg since I purchased, through all the mods. Had the TB bored out to 60 mm a couple month back and the first full tank I got 15.9 mpg. I was so thrilled. BUT, gas prices gained steam and the Jeep has been parked ever since. Tomorrow she will be back on the road, just because I have a craving to get her out, and gas prices along my commute are below 3.70.

My next vehicle will be on two wheels or a much older diesel converted to vegi oil. Not my preference of toys, but we have to change with the times, or pay the price to play.
