Front driveline bad vibe

I have a stock 98 with 120k. Put a 2 inch spacer lift on it 2 years ago. @ months ago it started getting a weird intermittent buzzing/vibe toward the front. I finally climbed under there and nothing visually amiss except the front axle is weeping oil out the back where the shaft goes in.

Is the front shaft supposed to turn all the time even in 2 Hi? Maybe the output shaft bearing or seal?

Thanks for any ideas

yes, the front driveshaft will turn all the time.

most likely the u-joints/slip yoke on the shaft developed play and caused the d-shaft to be outta balance and the resulting vibes have worn out the outer pinion bearing and pinion seal. same thing has happened to me.

-get a new d-shaft if the slip is toast or rebuild it if its just the joints
-get a new outer pinion bearing, seal, and pinion nut.
-use hulk strength and pop the pinion nut off
-remove and replace
-torque pinion nut to correct spec, 210 ft lbs IIRC
-done

took me not even a half hour under the jeep
