Engine Revs then dies on startup

I have an 88 xj. I rescently replaced all the usual, cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires, and fixed all vacuum leaks. Before I had done that, when I would start her up, the engine would rev up then back down and die. She would do this about 10 times, then start working fine. After I replaced all those things, she was good for about 4 months. Yesterday she did it again. I had just driven about 15 miles and left her sitting for about an hour. Went back out to start her, rev up then die. I got her started and began my drive home and she died in the middle of the road. I Popped the hood, jiggeled all the wires over by the relays on the passenger side for about 5 seconds, this time she rev'd up and stayed on. I made it home with no problems. Any ideas???? Thanks in advance.

Fuel pump relay? That's on the right side of an '88. Ballast resistor? The start circuit bypasses the ballast resistor, but the RUN circuit passes throiugh the ballast resistor to the fuel pump. This would allow it to start, rev up on the fuel pumped while cranking, then die if the ballast resistor isn't allowing power to the fuel pump.

Sounds like a problem in the fuel pump ballast circuit. That can be the relay, the wiring, or the ballast resistor.

I just had this exact same problem and it turned out to be the ASD (Auto Shutdown Relay). Swapped it with the A/C relay and bam - not problem at all. People told me to check the same things as above, but it wasnt it.
