Dual Transfercases?

I've seen them around, what's the advantage to these?
Is it so that you can put them both in 4Lo and have a really high crawl ratio, put one in 4LO and the other in 4hi and have a normal crawl ratio... and so on?

plus you can do like 2lo, or disconnect the rear and just use front wheel drive..i dunno how to do dual cases in an xj though anybody else know?
