Ok might belong in Mod tech or here not sure so here it is.
first specs..I have a 96 country model, 4" lift, 242tcase, auto tranny, 4.0eng.
stock D30 (tore up) stock D35, EZ Locker not yet installed. 3.55 gears
Is a jeep dana 30 a jeep dana 30 or are there differences in a 4cy to a 6cy or a wrangler to an XJ. My 30 in my xj is smoked, ring and pinion destroyed, so rather than pay the $$ to regear and lock and all I was thinking of picking up a junkyard axle with 3.73's and locking it and calling it quits. This is not a DD in fact I am off road only with it.Is this possible.
Now same question with the dana 35. I already have a detroit EZ locker for the rear but the axle is geared 3.55. are all 35's the same? and can I install 3.73 gears into the stock current housing? so if I buy some used 3.73's from any 35 is it good or do I need a specific year, make, model and all?
I know everyone is going to say go to 4.11's, 4.56, or even 4.88, but I'd rather not change my axel housinds if not needed and I think 3.73 should fit in stock housings. Am i right?
Part 3. If I can use 3.73's in my current 35 does anyone have some for sale reasonable? Used is OK I just wanna get rolling again.
