Casey Not anything I am aware of linking the loose tailpipe with the rough ideling. Try what was suggested, disconnect the negative battery terminal and go consume a couple of beers (your preferance as to brand) then re-attach the battery ground solidly and restart the Jeep. Give it a minute or two to have the ECM re-program itself then all should smooth out. BTW ECM=engine control module or computer for the engine management.

Ok, this is the update...
It's still running like s*it....

It seems like it isn't firing right. It is puttering, and sounds like the exhaust is spitting out air. I have no idea what this could be. It also seems like something underneath is loose. any ideas?

does the 84 2.5 4cyl have the cps? I'm having the same trouble. i replaced the cap and rotor (just bc it needed it anyway). it has good plugs as well.
