Computer problems....need some help here

Matt,

What website did you go to that you acquired the infection?

You lookin at porn again???

LOL!

LOL!
i just had the usual NAXJA gmail facebook craigslist open and i left the computer for a minute, came back and all of a sudden the fake pop ups saying my computer and harddrive were screwed up came on and started running a "scan" and then restarted the computer. i then found out that if i just ignored the icons and didnt click anything i could use the computer like normal.

decided to see what you guys though on here and sure enough the first poster helped me solve my problem

all is well now, and even so people are still telling me to download this, download that, this is better than that, blah blah blah. idk wat to do lol. i did download malwarebyes and ran a scan and nothing came up so my computer should be good now.

You are good now... BTW, I am a computer tech, this is what I do for a living.

Computer viruses can only be contracted from watching gay porn.

I use "spybot" and "IOBit Security 360". Both can be found for free, just google search them. They will both find things that Microsoft Security Essientials won't find.

Also. those scans that open up magically while you are on the internet are actually putting viruses on your computer. Close them as quickly as possible. My GF screwed her computer up bad one day when she let one of those run. 5 HijackThis reports and 10 restarts later it was fixed.

Download and install all of these:

Avast! anti-virus
Malwarebytes
AdAware
Spybot

Avast should be running all of the time. Run the others at least weekly--odds are one of them will pick up things the others may have missed.

NEVER CLICK ON ANYTHING WHEN A POPUP PRESENTS! Ctrl-Alt-Del and close the browser.

And stop visiting Porn sights.

Subscribed ... awesome information in here. Except that when something goes wrong with my PC there's no half-stepping ... the whole doggone thing goes down ... :(

yeah, my trusty Sony Vaio started hanging up on me a couple weeks ago on the first boot of the day--hard reboot and everything was fine for the rest of the day. Until this past Friday and it would start to hang every time after about 2-3 minutes of operation. Very disturbing. There is a difference between a "Good Wife" and a "Great Wife". When you show your Wife your broken laptop a "Good Wife" will console you in your time of grief--a "Great Wife" will drive you to the store and buy you a brand new notebook. I have a Great Wife!!

Have any of you heard about the Blaster Worm virus? Apparently it hit big in 03, but my g/f just got it, and shes running the AVG Free, on windows 7...

She cant run any executables, so any download patches we have tried to install won't work. Just saw this go through recently and thought i'd ask? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have remote hard drives for her to back up files to, but I don't know how to control any "infected" files. Any suggestions of backing up her stuff, and just wiping the hard drive clean? Thanks a ton!

Back up data only. Wipe the drive. Reinstall. Install antivirus software. Apply all patches and service packs. Restore data files. Scan & clean data files. Hope you got everything.

I really hope her machine isn't directly-connected to the Internet while you're doing this - and software firewalls don't count.

The chance of you being infected by the blaster worm is very low. It's more common you have an adware spyware program blocking exe files and it's giving a fake alert saying your infected by the blaster worm. Download SuperAntiSpyware portable it ends in a .com ending so it should be able to run http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html?tag=SAS_HOMEPAGE After you‘re done scanning run Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/

You will probably need to download these to a flash drive on a working computer and run them in safe mode also remember to update your definitions.

If you are actually infected by the blaster worm boot into safe mode and run stinger http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/how-to-use-stinger.aspx real viruses can also infect your data even if it's backed up.

Today I cleaned up a computer with AVG Business 2011 it completely disabled AVG. And on multiple occasions I've cleaned up computers with Microsoft Security Essentials it sits there running in the background with no clue your computer is infected. It’s sad how useless some of these programs are.

this is most likely. goto
bleepingcomputer.com

find the combofix guide.

rename the combofix.exe to combofix.com

run
it will likely fix your shell issues, then follow up wiht hitman (surfright.nl)
then MBAM

then your preferred antivirus. Personally the new AVG free is the suck, security essentials is a better program. I can't believe I jsut endorsed a microsoft product.

Most antivirus programs work well for blocking viruses I haven’t seen one that is effective for adware. I use NOD32 at home and the businesses I work for. I like that it is very configurable and easy to manage it’s not perfect but good enough. If you have no self control on the internet and do whatever the computer tells you the full version of Malwarebytes may help. I also like AdMuncher www.admuncher.com it completely removes ads and popups from websites which is also effective for blocking adware from being installed.
