Bumper Advice

I would make my own thread but I'm getting a lot of ideas from this one. I'm pretty much now stuck on what bumper to make, a tube style or regular style like the Nate's one. After calling a couple places up, I could pretty much make a 3/16" regular bumper for the same price as a hot rolled 1 3/4" .120 wall round tube bumper. Actually make that 2, I believe a stick could make a front and rear.

I've got the Nate's Recessed Winch bumper. Though it took a A LOT OF PESTERING, it eventually arrived. We some of our own mods to it:

  1. Expanded metal mesh welded onto the grill guard.
  2. Light tabs: Hella lights hanging down.
  3. Added my own D-ring tabs.
  4. Welded AND through-bolted brackets for a tow bar.
  5. Installed a 7-wire electrical harness socket for towing.
  6. Filled in the flats on the end with diamond plate.

RIGIDCO... you deal right with the guy that builds the bumper. Best designs out there for XJs. Notice the cross plate on the front. I dont know any other bumpers that include that in their design. BEEF.

I have the JCR stage 4 w/ tie-ins and the psbox spacer, perfect bumper with plenty of clearance and has a receiver for a winch when i decide to run 1 down the road.

How can anyone think that a simple 2x6 front bumper looks good? let alone pay top dollar or even bottom dollar for one? any half as welder could build one for you for way less.

IF you think, even in the remotest, tiniest corner of your mind that you MIGHT want a winch in the future--then buy the winch bumper now, or you will end up selling the non-winch bumper for maybe 1/2 of what you paid for it.

Just my humble opinion.

I bought the Stage 4 front bumper from JCR which has the 2" receiver up front so you can easily add a removable winch on a winch plate. I use the Tomken plate. Keep in mind, that will cost you an additional 70 bucks to the overall setup, plus wiring and quick disconnects.

I did not want to haul the weight of the winch around with me every day, so the system works for me.

X2 Rigidco.

Really impressed with how it ties into the unit body. Very strong. I ordered the optional fog lights, driving lights, custom tow bar mounts, BG 11 hoop, and a winch mount insert.
