ok, I know the whole 'turning the upper shock eye 90 degrees' has been debated. Well, I emailed Monroe, and the tech said it was bad, that it could break the shock if flexed. hmm.....new project for me

Interesting...I ran that setup for years on my first XJ and never had a problem. In fact, I'm running it that way on my current XJ and have no problems.

what shocks did/are you running?

i have been running the sway bar mounts as my shock mounts for about 6mnths now...works graat...im running Pro-comp ES3000's

Im doing the same thing, running monroes, no problems yet and they see some abuse. The rear doesnt flex as much as i want, the springs are s10 springs so they are a lil stiff, but i havent heard of any problems with this. I thought there might be a problem when i first did this, looking at it, it doesnt seem like it would work right due to the way the shocks are supposed to swivle but i havent had any problems.
