Bittersweet goodbye ... but NACFEST maybe ...

Mighty.Mighty_XJ

Well, it's officially bye-bye to the NAC. Yeah I know I haven't posted in ages, but I usually creep in here and :eyes: on things from time to time. My life changed a lot in recent years and the time for web socializing just wasn't there any more. Haven't done much (any?) wheeling since my XJ puked pancake mix after Hurricane Sandy. Can y'all believe it's been that long? Y'all prolly don't even remember me, but I'm still NAC at heart and my Red She-Devil is still kicking - if a bit worse for wear in the paint department!!

Anyway, some of you might know that I have left New Jersey in my rear view and am now living in Virginia. Imagine the culture shock of leaving 24hr-always-lit-Atlantic-City for the profound darkness & quiet of rural VA! The XJ is fine but she sat for a looong time, patiently waiting for me to spend some quality time with her. That time might be now. She just skipped thru VA inspection (ugh!!) and we've been really jonesing for some rocks. We can still do black trails on 33's ... :dunce: Ain't no rocks that I can find in VA, soooo....

... I registered for NAC fest  but to be honest I'm really not sure that I will make it at all. My pay isn't what it used to be in AC :( . Regardless, I don't mind the registration fee going to supporting the club even if I don't show up. Let's see how it goes.

Will it be okay to attend even if I'm no longer an "official" member of the NAC? Do I have to pay up NAXJA fees? I welcome any info.

Hi Lavern,
Great to hear from you. I know many of us had no idea where you ended up. Glad to hear you got out of AC, it sounded like things were going downhill quickly there. It would be great to see you at Nac-fest, I hope you can make it!!

Hey guys, great to see you all still wasting time on the forum on a Monday morning, :wave1:!
altierior thanks for the tip on Gore ... looks like it's less than 3 hours from me. Definitely gonna try to see what's up this summer!

ehall I'm near Fredericksburg which is an hour or 2 south of DC and about 45 miles north of Richmond. have yet to touch base with the SEC. My heart's still with NAC :bawl:

Andy ... what can I say ... I didn't keep in touch at all. Things were hectic following Sandy, my Durango R/T drowned, we had to move out of the house for extensive flood repairs. Not too long after that I had to pack up & prepare the 2 houses by mself - 1 to put up for sale & the other for renting out, while still working 10 hour days in the casino. It was rough ... I lost about 15 pounds and you all know I didn't have much to spare in the first place!

XJLI yes, I still have the XJ - she ain't so "pretty" anymore, but I've had some work done. There are a few electrical gremlins but overall it's the same as before, still on 33s, but a bit taller until the latest rear springs settle. What a fiasco that was ... and a whole nother thread too. Money wasted changing things that didn't need changing.

Hey Lavern, great to see you are still kicking! Jeez! Hopefully we will see you at nacfest, if you can't make it that's totally understandable.
That said, being down there now you do have some options. I went down there last year to Oak Ridge Estates for the VA4WDA run they have there every year in September, and will most likely go again this year, the wife has never been there yet. Look into it, I will forward you info. I know you well enough to know you would love this run.
Glad to hear from you,
Rich

I know Fredericksburg, I go there a few times a year. I'm on the other side of the 301 bridge in MD. Red Cloud is in Woodbridge not far from you, they are only open for some weekends and its a pretty simple park but its close and a fun time. Chaos is in WV just over the border, they have more challenging terrain including some rock gardens. RCPFA is a club with some private land near Crozet, harder than Chaos but access is through the club membership and kind of pricey. There are other places around, and you're not that far from Rausch if you want. Are you a member of NOVA? I think they have some events, not sure.

Was just wondering how you fared after Sandy the other day. Glad to hear the jeep's still going dude!

Hey there -

Been wondering recently how you were doing, but been so busy I didn't get a chance to reach out. Glad to hear you're doing well.

Far as I know anyone's welcome at NACFest - I realize I'm finding this a bit late, but if you can come up, do it! I don't think there's any membership (chapter or otherwise) requirements any more on the event, and anyway we'd all be happy to see you. Heck, if you're near DC you're probably no further from Rausch now than you were in A/C, maybe even a shade closer. It'd be great to see you again.

So your XJ passed VA inspection, eh? Cool. Back here in NJ they just eliminated tailpipe emissions testing, so I get to scrape the sticker off mine in December when it expires (not that it wouldn't pass if I had to get it tested again), and carry a letter MVC will be sending me that shows me as exempt instead. Should be interesting to see how much attention the LEOs are paying to the memo they got from the state about it.
