Are these people serious?

what is it, 86?

.... At least the rest of Congress is "working" or attempting to work.
:roflmao:

That is incorrect. The Republicans walked out of the late night session this week, wouldn't back the President's proposal, didn't stay to do their job.

My point is this....People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I said it before and I'll say it again, we need to have at least two complete election cycles of lottery drawings using social security numbers from the general population, I really belive we could not do any worse than we have so far. I've seen and my wife works with autistics with more common sense than those snakes in DC.

Can you imagine the shock of realization that you might be the next President. "Holy crap, I was just (insert job here) a few months ago!"
Do you retain current qualifications? Things like age, citizenship, etc., or just any eligible voter with a SSN?

Let's not be too hasty...

Constitutional qualificiations would remain. Born citizen (but let's find a way to weed out "Anchor Babies" - some variety of the Grandfather Clause?) 25/30/35 years old for Representative/Senator/President.

If you hold one office, you are ineligible to hold any other office for a like term (viz. if you spend four years as a "drafted President," you are ineligible from holding any office for four years afterwards. Once that term passes, you're in the pool again.)

While in office, you are ineligible for holding any other office, and your name is removed from the pool while you're in office (and a like time afterwards.)

The only things that can disqualify you from holding office is a history of crimes against the person (murder/assault/rape/robbery/...) any variety of malfeasance or fraud (including extortion/embezzlement/fraud/...) or bona fide medical or psychological reasons.

You are to be given, say, two month's notice that you are going to serve a term in whatever office. Similar to the law provided for military reservists, you will not lose your job just because you're called up - you have to be given "the same position or one substantially similar" when your term is up (similar duties/compensation/whatever.)

Pension & retirement? Revoked. You don't "retire" from public service, and you should never be able to in the first place. Receiving protective service is a "maybe" at best.

As a transitionary measure (while this gets fleshed out,) let's take Presidential elections back to what they were - you didn't have a "running mate" - the guy who got the most votes was President, the guy who got the next higher number was Vice President - and you guys are just going to have to learn to work together and hammer out your damned differences. None of this partisan bickering - for starters, we're all sick to the teeth of it anyhow.

Discuss.

Currently, once elected you are no longer a democrat or republican, you are a senator or congressman and all ties to your party are severed on penalty of criminal prosecution.

Was this before or after Nancy Pelosi said "hey, this is a Republican bill, its their job it get it passed..."?

Don't know, it was after the white house meeting with both candidates. I just can't fathom all the finger pointing but given the demographics of this hobby it is mostly one way. That's fine, but let's at least get the finger pointing correct. Remember 9/11 when EVERYONE was just an American?

We need Americans to end this, not conservatives, not liberals, not socialists but Americans.

but after today I guess it just doesn't matter.
