BTW -- for anyone interested, the ring gear is 8-7/8" diameter, and the axle shafts are 1.25" with 29 splines. Which makes the shafts beefier than the 29-spline 8.25 axle, and the ring gear is actually larger than a Dana 44. It's probably possible to break one of these, but I think you'd have to be trying rather hard.

well i know i've beat mine and it hasn't broke i did how ever break lug nut studs off once.
 
RE: ratios lower than 4.56... This must be a newish development because they didn't exist before. There have been new gearsets developed by the aftermarket before. Wasn't aware of the ones available for the AMC20.
