Motor Mounts

Shorty posted:
Note reverse the motor mount through-bolt on the passenger side so it can be removed without pulling the filter adapter in the future

Brown Dog mounts--do a search. http://browndogindustries.com/jeep-motor-mounts-2.aspx
Available in natural rubber or poly--can be rebuilt or switched between rubber & poly. None better IMHO.

Go with Brown Dog mounts- they are great and the customer service is outstanding. I've heard the poly mounts may cause extra vibrations which are functionally no problem; buy may make your old XJ jingle and jangle.

Here is a link to the thread I recently posted about the part number for 1988 oil filter adapter o-rings:

You need to remove the oil filter adapter to get the old mount out. This is one of the areas that tend to leak oil, so kill 2 birds at once.

Here is a link to a thread where member 5-90 in post # 14 details the right way to do this job:

These are really important- bad motor mounts can tear up trans mounts and even worse- allow the motor to shift, causing the fan to impact the radiator.

Well thanks to all your helpful advice I passed "with flying colors" the tech said. I did a new cap, rotor, plugs, O2 sensor, and Cat. Also upon visual the tech showed me both hoses came off the canister (egr maybe) so I had to jump up in there and find them and plug them both back in. All is ok and I got my 2012 sticker. Now its onto the motor mount and a few leaks that need addressed. Thanks again guys!!

do you have a part number for the new cat? i assume it is a california legal cat. i need one for an 89 also. yep you guessed it, i too am a gross polluter. (for now)

No shoot unfortunately I didnt get a part number. Yes it was a legal cat and I just got it at a local muffler shop up in victorville. They installed it for $170 which I thought was on the lower priced side. Ask around in your area and you should be able to find a good deal.
