A differerent HV oil pump clearance problem?

My '98 was running low pressure, so I installed a high volume Melling oil pump. I had the typical clearance problems, needing to pound on the pan and also bending the pickup up a bit.

When done, I hear a clanking noise like the crankshaft is hitting something. With a stethescope, it is loudest at the the bottom of the lowest part of the pan.

Anyone have this happen?

Yes, that was it. The crankshaft was hitting the side of the pump. 4 hours later it was all fixed. Another thing to check when installing a high volume pump. I wonder if they could even be used with a stroker.
