4.88's with 33's

If I stick in the 60-65 range I do pretty damn good, but it's hard to resist myself on the open road :D

Moab is 2400 miles ONE WAY for me. every mph faster really makes a difference after 35 hrs at the wheel. i am pulling 15-16 mpg with the 31s/3.55s/AX-15. so if it can at least stay close to that i'm happy. curently i'm running 2200 RPM at 70 MPH. what can i expect with 4.88s/33s? who has a link to one of those cool charts that maps it all out?

4.88s and 33's should put you in the neighborhood of 3000 RPM at 70 MPH...give or take a few.

I think 3k gets me to 75mph. (4.88's, 33" AT's). Back when I had 3.55's and 33's a good overdrive cruise was closer to 90 mph, but I don't miss how dangerous that was.

Loved reading this post. I have an '89 XJ Wagoneer LTD...want to re-gear and will soon be switching to 33's. waffling between 4.11's and 4.56's...maybe 4.88's are the way to go?

It's a DD...not many miles...but occasionally takes the long trip to wheelin' places like Moab.

4.56's at the very least. With 4.11's going up hill is going to suck. With 4.56's it's not going to be too bad. With 4.88's you'll be smiling as you're crusing along and passing all those who went with 4.11's and 4.56 :D

I'm on 4:56 and 31's with the plan to be at 33's in a month or so. 4:56 and 33's seems a natural as it is too much on the highway with 31's.
