32's and 4.56's ??

Do you go off-road much with your Jeep? If not, a D35 will survive. If you beat your Jeep severly off-road a D35 just won't hold up to even bigger tires, and much more torque due to the lower gearing, and don't even think of being able to use a locker. The auto tranny is easier on the drivetrain but I wouldn't push a D35.

OK but what about a super 35, detroit, and 33s w/ 4.88 gearing? That should do just fine.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't bother. You still have an inherintly weak housing. Some might say you can get a truss, but by the time you spend all that money on making a D35 tougher you just should have bought something better.

I'm running 4.56's & 31's. Just regeared a couple of weeks ago. In D @55mph I am turning about 2200rpm. In 3rd it turns about 2750. HTH. JIM.

Did you regear your speedo? Your numbers are way off.
With 285's (33's) and 4:56's my speedo reads 2800-2900 at 75mph and my GPS says my speedo is accurate.......based on a +/- 3meter reading.

I'm about to regear for 32 or 33's. Is the 2900 RPM range ok to run in on the 4.0 for extended periods? 2900 at 75 mph sounds perfect, but if I end up with the 32's, that would mean 2900 RPM at around 65 mph right?

This was checked with a local radar gun. Haven't regeared the speedo yet, the dealers around here say they can't get a 42 tooth gear for a 96. Where can I get one? JIM.

At 65 MPH in OD, I'm turning a little less then 2500 RPM's with 4.56 gears and 32's.
