1999 XJ overheated today! 4.0 185,000

Yes it cooled back down. I am going to go to Napa and get one of those hoses with the spring, then put antifreeze and a bottle of super flush to leave in, and see if it starts running again at 195 or 200 like it has been doing four the past four years.

Then I will see if any auto shops do a free check of the radiator, but I really don't trust them as they all just want to make a quick buck anyway they can.

The final solution, was to replace the radiator and hoses, it was not to bad of a job. It is running like new and all is back to normal.

I broke up the old radiator to look at the inside and it was totally clogged.

Agreed. A coolant drain and service once a year will go a long way to ensuring that the radiator doesn't completely rust itself out. If that gunk was in your radiator, think what's in your engine's water passages.
