So my XJ does not have an ATF cooler and I'd like to be able to tow small trailers. Curious if anyone here could suggest a specific trans cooler to pull the trigger on?
Among other things, the mechanic used and endoscope. This happened well over a year ago so unfortunately I'm hazy on the details at this point.

I found one with 73k for a grand. Had the VIN attached so I was able to look it up, out of a four owner car. Said screw it and pulled the trigger.
You think I should do some work to this engine before installing?

I don't feel competent to build a motor on my own. And I want this thing to just run for at least another 100k, hopefully more. So I hate to drop in a high mileage boneyard motor. My shop said the Jasper reman would cost me $3,500, I'm kind of basing prices on that. Their quote was pre-Covid so...
So this is interesting if I could find a shop to do it. My concern is just finding a place that does quality work. Any suggestions on finding a reputable shop? I'm in Denver if it helps.
On finding a low mileage motor, that seems like a tall order.

Sadly, at only 130,000 miles I have a cracked piston ring and my motor is dying a slow death. My buddy and I are looking to swap in a replacement motor this winter. My mechanic suggested a Jasper reman but it doesn't look like they sell to the public. I'm hoping you guys could give me some...
I had 2.5" lift and 30s put on my 97 about two years ago. To be totally honest, it wasn't the greatest period in my life and I don't recall exactly what went on it. Jeep drives wonderfully, does all the off road things. But fast forward to today and with tire carrier, fuel skid and all our...
Oh, I "fixed" my check engine light long ago. When I say CEL is or isn't lit it's more metaphorical. I scan with Torque regularly. If it's throwing a new DTC I just call that a lot CEL

I'll see how the compression test shakes out and if it's good possibly pull the trigger.
Any advantages from the upgraded injectors or just putting in new ones generally (beyond attempting to fix the rough idle / misfire)? Like, does the spray pattern get messed up over time and I'll see some...
$150 I could probably swing. What injectors would you suggest?
Also, if what's happening at the time is just the rough idle would you see that as safe? Only way I can get the code to pop back up is to remove the ignition or injector wire.
Haven't checked the fuel pressure. That would indicate a bad fuel pump if low?
It had maybe a 1/16 of a tank, that's why I just filled it up and didn't bother to drain the old fuel.
I'd rather not shell out the money for new injectors if it's avoidable. I saw a set was something like $400 on...
So I had a misfire on cyl 1. I changed cap, rotor, plug, wires and checked the injectors with a multimeter, inspected obvious wires in engine bay. The DTC went away but it's now idling rough in a different way. Can't get CEL to come back on.
Bad gas occurred to me. Jeep has been mostly sitting...
I couldn't resist the temptation and wound up taking her wheeling today. I was careful but it was still 100 miles and an elevation gain of 5,500 ft. Coolant never exceeded 210* (OBD reading). I think it's gtg.
The only things that changed from when I could get it to overheat while idling and...
I attempted to induce the issue again idling about a half hour with the Jeep in forward gear. It doesn't overheat because the fan consistently kicks on about 220 (OBD).
I've noticed that there's a lag with the OBD temp readings. Revs and other parameters are real time but coolant temperature...
.
Great idea, thanks! I took her to the pharmacy with the same results. 203* as long as I was running the fan. But that's a short easy drive and it was coolish out. I'll try letting it idle in a forward gear during the heat of the day
