Im about to make some leaf spring shackles for my project Jeep. I am wondering if I should drill the hole for the bolt the same size as the bolt ? I'm using 9/16" bolts. So Do I drill them 9/16" or 32nds or 64ths over ? The shackles are going to be 3/8" thick if that matters. Thanks for any input.
So... my 89 XJ has been getting horrible gas mileage and I figured out that the heater wire to the O2 has not been getting power. I traced it back to the starter relay. When I turn the key to "run" this wire on the starter relay should be hot(12v) correct ? I was trying to figure out which wire...
Ok, I've been thinking about this recently.. I want to add a trackbar brace on my XJ to help tighten things up front. I only am lifted 3" and have not recentered the axle - I cant really notice it being out of place. So, I am thinking its barely off.. and I'll do just fine with redrilling the...
I swapped in a durango box in my XJ, and swapped in a new reman ZJ power steering pump as well.. and my steering is still heavy. Not too heavy, but not pinky finger easy to turn... even if I rev up the motor, the steering ease of turning does not improve. So.. that tells me if I get a smaller...
Ok, I got a 99 durango box to swap out my old box with. I searched the internet all over and got all the "information" about the upgrade. Here are the Facts.. a 99 durango box(non plow) input shaft only turns approx 2.75 times. While the output shaft will only turn less than 45 degrees. 89 XJ...
Ok, my 89 all of sudden started DW'n, so I jacked up my jeep and inspected the steering components and could not find anything that even remotely seemed to be loose or worn out except for the steering box. It has a small amount of play.. as I turn the tires back and forth(while jacked up). I do...
I am wondering about something here.. I got a 231 part time transfercase and the factory d30 up front non disco axle and an aussie locker. Will my front driveshaft turn all the time even with the transfercase in 2WD ?
Anyone know of a website with engine specs and tolerances ? I have my renix(89) motor torn down and trying to figure out if my engine knock was a piston slap. I have crank specs for the 258 motors.. I'm thinking they are the same. Or am I wrong ? Also are specs different for different year 4.0's ?
I'm currently working on a build plan for my stroker motor. I will be trying to put together a very complete parts list for this stroker build. I will be making changes from your inputs and after more researching. So, I'll update the parts list until its satisfactory. I want to include parts...
I'm planning on a rebuild of my 4.0, and making it into a stroker. I am looking at prices, and trying to find some good places to buy. I cant really seem to find a crankshaft for very cheap except for schucks.com for $188 with bearings. I also want to get new 707 rods, pistons, and the rest of...
My 89 4.0 has started to grow louder the last couple days. It has a rod knock going on down there. Well, I am thinking of just getting a crankshaft kit if theres one available out there ? I would just swap out the crank and bearings and put her back on the road. I may have a loose wrist pin as...
I have searched, and read threads after threads about this.
I have not found a confirmed working solution for the temp switch in a 92+ thermostat housing.
Has anyone found the right temp switch for this ? I dont want one that turns on too early, or too late.
Are they suppose to have any or some axle end play ? I'm finishing up a explorer rear disc brake swap on my d44 and have some weird axle end play. First, I got the teraflex spacers and using the stock xj d44 bearing plate. I have pressed on new bearings on the axles.
After assembling the axle...
Ok, I picked up a CS144 delco remy alternator for next to nothing. I figured out how to get it mounted on my 89 XJ, but still need to finalize the install. I have a few belt routing options, and would like input on which is best.
Here are pics...
First one: This is the one I *want* to go with...
I have not heard about this, but I was reading an article about shackles.. and it mentioned that bushings with sleeves resists against bushing deflection. So, I want more info on this.. do people run bushings without the sleeves ? yah or nay for this mod ?
Ok well, I wanted some tow points on the front of my XJ.. this is what I ended up doing.
So sorry for the lousy pics. Its a 5 mega pix cam, but takes pics like a camera phone sometimes.
I cut down a old receiver hitch off a truck and mod it to fit between the frame rails of the XJ and to fit...
I worked on my 90 XJ front brakes for the first time.. and I was kinda surprised by what I saw. The caliper bolts are tiny.. 8mm 12pt heads ! Why so small ? My 89 takes a big ol bolt comparing to the 90.
Well, I was also looking at brake pads for the 90.. seems like its a special year, where...
I got this purple vac line coming out of the firewall on my 89 XJ, and I cant find where it goes. I did yank the axle vac disco setup years ago.. I cant remember if I need to plug this line up or if it goes somewhere ? The jeep has been sitting for a while and I was going over it and found it...
