if you dont plan on going bigger than 36" tires, and your only running 4.10 gears whats wrong with a LP? like many people asked befor... is it closed knuckle? if so it aint good for nuthin. the u-joints in the closed knucle axles are tiny compared to the open knucle u-joints.
and pesonaly i...
you would not have to use the v-8 drag link, but if you dont the stock drag link is your weak link. i bent my stock tierod, so i bent it back and welded some 1" angle on the bottom of it, and the next time out i bent my drag link. thats why i just swaped in the entire V-8 stearing setup. i ran...
i ran the v-8 grand tierod and drag link for a while, it was a direct bolt on, it didnt even change my alighnment. the v-8 stuff is way more beef than the stock stuff, i would recomend it.
nice work, but with all of that work, did you ever think of getting rid of those junk axles that are under it? you said that you wanted to put some big meats under it, will the stock axles be up to the challenge of big tires? but anyways, nice work, i like the idea of something new
the 231 is slightly weake because it only has 3 planetary gears, as opposed to 5 or 6. but i do agree with it being a fairly strong setup. i dont think that the weak part is due to the planetary gears, i think it is the intermidiat shaft. if someone breaks a 231 they more than likely did...
as far as the 203/205 combo, i agree that it is stronger but with this setup behind a stock engine and tranny i think hat it will do just fine, but if i therw a v-8 infront of this setup i would have my worries. and i like it because there is no modification to my trasmision.
anyone ever made a bracket to lower the shacle down?i thinking to gain a bit more lift i would make a bracket to lower the upper shacle mount. any ideas, thoughts or even better, pics?
thanks, kyle
well i want to run a lot of lift so that i can clear 38" tires, i am running 38" tires because i want to get as much ground clearance under my d60, and yes i would like to keep it stock xj length because i dont feal like custom making any more shat on my heep, also, what is the biggest shackle...
i need to get the biggest lift leaf springs i can find, im going to be at about 10" in the front and i am fishing for sugestions for the rear. i dont want to run a block but i will if i need to.
im 4 somethin into it and that is including the d300.
as far as the 231 strength, the hole is pritty good size in the middle of the stock shaft, and why not get a shaft made? if thats going to be your weekest link, i think that its worth the extra buks to get one made from scratch and then have...
i didnt use the 231 shaft because it has an oil gally drilled down the center and that would make it a lot weaker. i used 4340 and then had it cryogenicly treated.
the front driveshaft is about 3 in shorter, and if you think about a 231 with the standard length sye, the 300 already has a sye and the hole setup makes the rear driveshaft 2-3 in shorter (if you use a 300 with a long tail housing). i made my own plate and intermidiat shaft and im about to bolt...
