You'll need to wear off the rust and stuff on the rotors, drive slow and ride the brakes. I'd think they would need to be really bad to warrant replacement.
Bumper to Bumper local for 83 a side after core return. So not bad. I will do that for sure.
I was looking at rockauto since I use them a lot. But they want me to ship mine back, and the cost crossing the boarder just makes that option too expensive. 32 dollar core charge though if you are...
Yes, lots will order. Part source wants 160 a side, and has no core refund.
No Autozone here. Bumper to bumper wants 150 a side, no core refund.
I'll phone carquest and napa today.
Ok, new calipers it is.
We don't have Vato Zone in Canada. I wonder if Part Source or bumper to bumper has that deal.
Rock auto looks to be 80 bucks a side plus 35 shipping.
They have what I would call normal amounts of rust on them. I was just thinking if I blast them they will take paint real well.
But I wasn't thinking about any rust in the bore. A rebuild kit is pretty cheap. I would probably be better off tearing them down and soaking in a rust remover...
Just gathering all my parts for the swap and want to clean up the calipers and the knuckles. But what parts do I have to protect?
The knuckles look like I can just go to town on. But for the calipers can I just take them apart and start spraying?
Also, does the media used matter? I have...
Without wanting to do any modifications it would probably be easier to sell what you have and buy a complete bumper.
Or buy this http://www.dirtboundoffroad.com/xj-bumper-brackets.html and get it welded on, it'll be much stronger too.
Sounds like the exact issue I was having. Pulled the rear shaft and problem went away. It looked all good to me, but the driveline shop said it would be more to fix than a new one. The new shaft is great.
I'd almost look at your motor mounts too, though I don't think that's your issue.
The worst part is I have Physics 126 and 146 from UofA. It's been 10 years though.
I think with a straight pull like pictured, the top factory bolts would be taking 50%, the bottom factory bolts would take 25% and the nut strip would take 25%
With the pull coming from lower, almost all the...
Hmm, doesn't make sense to me. If there is a slight upward I can see it pulling on all.
I was led to believe the stock bolts weren't very strong. But I can't find anyone that's ripped off the bumper despite being told it happens "all the time" from the local group. I had a guy not pull me out...
I know the nutstrip is always great to use. But with how the nut strip is tied to the bumper, it's not really doing anything till the factory nuts pull out of the frame.
That's a great thread, sucks some of the pictures I really wanted to see didn't work though.
So mounting with the factory...
I'd say they are 1" OD and probably 120 wall. And over the 4' or so of the roof it would rip the rain rails off before bending down into the roof.
I'm using 3/4" 065 wall and over the width of the XJ I can stand (146lbs) in the middle of the tubing with minimal flex.
So I am a bit worried about pulling with my rear JCR bumper.
I have been thinking and the way it is, I am putting all the force on the factory 8 bolts only.
Green is the force from a strap, blue is bolts, red is steel.
This is how the bumper attaches to the nut strip. I made my own so uses...

Dimensions are listed there....
I'm not worried about a low tree either. But I am worried how the 80lbs up high will act. But I know I don't want the weight leveraging on my rear.
Doesn't really matter if it's a couple minutes or few seconds to put on and off. It's never a race to get home. Just want it to look nice, I have decent fab skills, but just not sure where to start really.
I was almost thinking a little bracket off the nut strip and then a little weld to the...
