I was curious if anyone knows why front axles bend. I just find it interesting since they are in a tube and have joints at the end instead of flanges. Just curious. I can understand how they could twist torsionaly.
I just came across a near free 98ZJ 4x4
I have an 89 XJ AW4 242 D30/D35, 3.5inch lift SYE. Keeping it
Would it be to my advantage to swap parts off of the ZJ, I know the rear axle wouldn't fit without modifying.
Or should I leave the ZJ alone? And as they sit both run fine.
I found it!!!! After looking at my yoke only for the millionth time. After this shaft swap I noticed there was a small amount of play at the yoke. I checked the joints when I had it out. I measured the yoke and the difference and it was .02" wider. I had a spare at home and looked at it and...
I took the rear shaft out and it made some improvements although I got a new set of vibes running the front alone. I think I'll get it balanced and see what happens.
Replaced the tires finally!, I'd say it got 75% better. I'm still amazed that the old tires still looked good but were wreaking havoc. I still have a slight vibe going at high speed but I think that may be the drive shaft. I'll play with that some more to see if it helps. As of right now the...
With the front wheels up, have some one apply the brake an see which is not working. Then have them release the pedal and see if either side is dragging or holding. Then when you find the side open the bleeder and see if it releases, if it doesn't open the fitting at the top of the hose. If it...
Got my new wheels on and replaced the sway bar bushings. I found the bushings were sloppy when I was working on it last and was hoping that was something. But I still get the vibe. Still trying to figure this thing out. Also replaced the calipers because of some rust in the fluid that was coming...
Well I've had a few observations over the past few drives. The problem seems to be temperature dependent. When I drive to work with the temps in the 80s I get the dancing spare tire. On my way home when it's in the low 70s it's mostly solid as a rock. I do have a front vibe but I attribute that...
I just rotated the tires and the rear vibe has seemed to have died down. It must be a wheel. I've balanced all of them myself and looked them over but can't see any obvious problems. But gives me an excuse for new wheels which I've been wanting anyway.
